Designed as a reference lens for the M-mount system, the black Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. from Leica is a versatile normal-length prime characterized by its bright maximum aperture and sophisticated optical design. Comprising eight elements in five groups, the lens features one aspherical element to reduce spherical aberrations and both anomalous partial dispersion and high refractive index glasses are used to control color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity. Additionally, a floating elements system is used to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range, down to 2.3'. Additionally, the lens features a built-in extendable lens hood and is threaded to accept 46mm screw-in filters.

Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. Reviews
I'm Happy
I just got the Summilux 50 1.4 ASPH FLE used from B&H. I'm not sure if my Summilux has a lot of character though. It doesn't produce much glow wide open, and I didn't see any other vintage style imperfections that people love. What I have noticed is that the lens is sharp with good contrast at f/1.4, which is a rare and valuable trait for a compact fast 50. Bokeh is the other stand-out feature of the Summilux. The lens has a unique bokeh rendering that just looks amazing. I saw obvious color fringing on some out-of-focus highlights at f/1.4, so the lens isn't perfect. The only other lens I own that's on the same level with the Summilux is the Sony 50 1.2 GM. The Summilux is the best lens I ever put on my M10. It's a brilliant design.
Just amazing!
I just love this lens and leave it on 90% of the time- I do practice with it and that's vital- but the results are well worth it! Get this lens!!!
Dood...
Awesome lens. I am getting adaptors for my Sony bodies just to be able to use this lens outside of the Leica world. Too juicy!!
The best 50mm I've used.
I love this lens for taking photos of people. Typical Leica quality. The only downside to this lens is that that the bokeh can have some ninja stars at certain apertures and very specific lighting conditions (super bright bokeh balls).
Beautiful lens producing outstanding images
I purchased the Black-Chrome edition of the Summilux 50mm with the matte black finish. It's nicely weighted/well balanced on my M10r. It's a beautiful lens. According to the literature, this is a limited 500 piece run. Although a hefty price for a lens, I'm sure it will appreciate in value over the years and after several photoshoots, I found it one of the best Leica M lenses I have ever used. The resulting pics look great. I see no chromatic aberrations or distortions. I've used it for portraits and the images are sharp with that distinct 'Leica look'. The lens comes with a matching metal lens hood that complements the black matte finish and classic look of the lens. The lens hood stores away on the lens in the backward position. You need to press the two lens hood tabs to release it, turn it around, align it properly, and press the tabs again to mount it on the lens. It was a little awkward at first, but I got used to aligning the lens hood to where it mates with the lens. The lens was on backorder but became available within a couple of days. As usual, great job of packaging and timely shipping by B&H. I love this lens!
Unreal clarity
Even wide open in bright daylight the level of clarity and the amount of contrast is amazing. Clearly the Portugal manufacturing process is equal to the German one.
Sharp, light lens!
Very sharp! I use on my M6 and my M11! I've discovered I'm a 50mm man. Usually the only lens I carry. Light, sharp and easy. I highly recommend!
Wonderful lens!!!
Added this to the lenses for my Leica M9-P, great quality as always, so worth the rather higher cost of the brand... and they keep getting more expensive, so....
