Awesome lens. I am getting adaptors for my Sony bodies just to be able to use this lens outside of the Leica world. Too juicy!!

I bought this for self-use and collection. This lens looks gorgeous and amazing. The built quality is of a high standard. The hood is brass made and feels quite priceless.

The feeling of operation and the texture are both great.

The feeling of operation and texture is the best among the current 50mm lenses.  The used lens of summilux 1st is different from the used summcron and price is more than  $ 20,000 lens are badly damaged and it is too late to buy from now.  This lens is brand new, high performance and compact and very nice.  I recommend this UN filter https://www.un-satellite.jp/html/products/detail.php?product_id=308.  The genuine hood can be used with SCHOTTs glass protection filter 43 mm. I love this lens for taking photos of people. Typical Leica quality. The only downside to this lens is that that the bokeh can have some ninja stars at certain apertures and very specific lighting conditions (super bright bokeh balls).

Beautiful lens producing outstanding images

I purchased the Black-Chrome edition of the Summilux 50mm with the matte black finish. It's nicely weighted/well balanced on my M10r. It's a beautiful lens. According to the literature, this is a limited 500 piece run. Although a hefty price for a lens, I'm sure it will appreciate in value over the years and after several photoshoots, I found it one of the best Leica M lenses I have ever used. The resulting pics look great. I see no chromatic aberrations or distortions. I've used it for portraits and the images are sharp with that distinct 'Leica look'. The lens comes with a matching metal lens hood that complements the black matte finish and classic look of the lens. The lens hood stores away on the lens in the backward position. You need to press the two lens hood tabs to release it, turn it around, align it properly, and press the tabs again to mount it on the lens. It was a little awkward at first, but I got used to aligning the lens hood to where it mates with the lens. The lens was on backorder but became available within a couple of days. As usual, great job of packaging and timely shipping by B&H. I love this lens!

It's a classic.

No longer the sharpest in the lineup, but still a beloved classic. Incredible bokeh wide open.

I’ve been debating getting this lens for a very long time, and I’m very glad I did. I think what held me back was a handful of the negative reviews about how the hood didn’t fit with a filter on. While this is true, I’ve found there isn’t really a need for every day street photography. The only reason I used hoods in the past was to protect the lens and an occasional heavy sunshine day, but my filter has got the lens protected so I don’t have a need for a hood. As far as the lens itself goes, it’s seriously a work of art and is pretty hefty for its size, a big chunk of well sculpted brass. Anyway, if you’ve been holding off due to the hood issue you might want to reconsider. Once this is sold out it’s only going to become more collectible.

According to Ken Rockwell it was 2004. I have had one since 2011, I believe it might be the best portrait lens ever made by anyone due to its incredibly realistic drawing and equally incredible bokeh.

Is there a protective filter that will fit this lens and still allow you to use the lens hood?
Asked by: Robert
Yes. Any of Leica's 46mm filters work perfectly with it and do not impede with pulling out the lens hood. For the UVa II filter, that would be B&H # LEUVAIIE46B, Leica cat# 13033 in black.

question

what lens filter can I use?
Asked by: Allen M.
One drawback about this incredible lens is that you cannot mount the lens hood with a 43mm filter attached to the lens. I have suggested a solution to Leica, which they are considering, but in the meantime, you can do the following. From B&H, order a Heliopan 40.5-43mm step-up ring (#270). It is 4mm x 45mm. Lay it flat on a piece of medium grit sand paper so that you can sand it to the finished size of 3mm x 45mm, and it will fit perfectly inside the outer prongs lens hood. You can now screw any 43mm filter into the Heliopan step up ring. Screw the filter into the step-up ring mounted on the lens hood before you mount the lens hood on the lens itself so you do not damage the front element of the lens. This may sound complicated, but it's not. I will post some photographs on the Leica Forum website.

Can this lens be mounted on a Canon 5D Mark II?What will be the differences in colors from this lens and characteristics compared to a Canon?
Asked by: Jane s.
Unfortunately, no, we do not carry any lens mount adapters that would allow you to attach a Leica M-mount lens onto the Canon EF lens mount.
