    Galaxy Audio JIB/S Reviews

JIB/S Jack In The Box Signal Splitter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for! I needed an inexpensive audio signal splitter for a dual indoor/outdoor audio system setup I had built to send my satellite radio signal to both systems so I could have the same signal on both simultaneously or run them independent of one another. The JIB/S Jack In The Box Signal Splitter fit the bill perfectly. For $ I got a well-built splitter with one input and four outputs that allowed me to configure my setup exactly as I had envisioned. Build quality of the unit is great and it's compact and produces high-quality output signals. All jacks are 1/4 so I did have to adapt a couple of my cables but I had no problems finding what I needed at a local consumer electronics shop. NIce product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product at a Great Price We needed to take a single signal and send it to 4 speakers ... opened the package, plugged in the cords and ... sound! Would, and probably will, order another one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed Feelings We needed a simple 2-way split from a line level stage output to multiple headphone monitor amplifiers. After debating about building the equivalent of these, I decided my time was worth more than their reasonable cost and purchased instead. They have worked out well for our application so far. The jacks are 3-wire stereo (TRS) but the unit will work equally well when used in a 2-wire mono (TS) installation. The enclosure itself is metal and is well constructed, with rubber feet to protect the surface it's sitting on. The jacks themselves are less impressive - I opened one of the units and found five plastic bodied jacks designed for PCB mounting, but there is no PCB! Instead, three lengths of bus wire (looks like #20 or #22 AWG) bridge the tip, ring, and sleeve connections of the jacks in a simple parallel arrangement. As the jacks were designed for circuit board mounting, there aren't even any holes in the terminals to insure a solid mechanical connection. The manufacturer is relying solely on the strength of the solder joints. This is probably fine for a fixed installation, but I wouldn't rely on it for road warrior use. Although I didn't test with a meter, it appears that the metal case is not connected to the internal sleeve bus wire at all. This could result in hum if the unit is used for a low level, high impedance application and someone touches the box. With the plastic jacks, I can see a potential problem if the inserted plugs get stepped on. Unfortunately, there aren't any slots for wall mounting. I would have preferred to see more robust jacks with solid metal sleeves such as those used on guitars. Although the product could conceivably be used to split speaker runs, I do not recommend it for that application due to the type of jacks supplied. Finally, note that without any resistive padding between the input and the outputs, a shorted cable anywhere in the system will cause problems for ALL users. So the final tally from me is three stars.

I need to split my soundcard's main output (2 balanced 1/4'' - L & R) to 4 speakers. Can I use a 'Y' cable to hook a stereo 1/4'' into the input and use the JIBS 4 outputs to each speaker? I'll lose the balanced connection with the Y cable, though.

Is the impedance constant on the input side as you add more headphones/speakers to the outputs, or does the input need to be increased as more peripherals are added?

I want to split our mono (ts) output from our pa's monitor jack to 3 powered monitors. All I can find are multiple trs splitters. How can I do this?
    Asked by: Anonymous
This unit will do exactly that but for TRS (the one with the band in the center of the plug).
