Sony ECM-CS10 overview

  • 1Description

The Sony ECM-CS10 is a unidirectional stereo clip on microphone designed for capturing conferences, meetings, lectures, performances and stereo ambient recording. The capsule houses 2 omnidirectional elements allowing even signal response at the direct and off-axis sections of each capsule. An integrated 2-way power supply allows plug-in power from select Sony or Aiwa recorders. An integrated stand allows mounting when capturing audio in meetings and conferences. An oxygen-free copper litz cable is terminated with an L shaped 3.5mm stereo mini cable.

Note: Requires Sony plug-in power and will not work with third party mini connections.

Stereo Capsule
Two unidirectional elements result in accurate stereo capturing of performances, speech, ambiance and more.
Unidirectional Pattern
The unidirectional pattern effectively minimizes off-axis noise, ambiance and feedback.

    Sony ECM-CS10 reviews

ECM-CS10 Stereo Lavalier Microphone is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sounds good but some attachment problems This mic is bigger than I expected it to be. I bought it for use with one of the new SONY digital handheld recorders with plugin power, and it sounds almost as good as the built-in mics of the recorder. I also like the quality cloth covered type cord. However the attempt at a clip to hold the mic is not very good. In its need to be an all purpose 'stand' the thing is just bulky and the attachment to the mic doesn't appear to be very solid. One thing really lacking is either an included or built-in wind filter. These are almost impossible to use outdoors without one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A versatile lapel mic I just received the microphone and tested it with a Sony digital recorder I use. It captured great sound, and will be using it to record a seminar this weekend. As a studio engineer, I plan on using this microphone for many applications in professional audio recording. I also plan to use it with a Mini DV Camcorder. It would be helpful if it had a carrying case, that is the only negative I could think of.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Extremely susceptible to noise I bought this thinking I would would use it as a lapel mic for recording interviews, but found it rather inappropriate for such usage. Its sturdy, stiff cord tends to be an unusually efficient conductor of noise. The cord needs to be taped down or put under a collar and run around the neck to effectively insulate unwanted noise from traveling along the cord. For video applications, trying to hide this mic where it won't be seen is extremely problematic due to high extraneous noise pickup, and although it's listed as omnidirectional, the pickup characteristics don't seem to lend themselves to concealed use. This mic seems to work best when used in a free-standing application where there's little or no cord movement. For interview purposes, far better results are obtained from a mono lavalier mic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the Job well. I use to worry about battery failure with other lavaliere mics under $30. That is why I picked up the ECM-CS10. The Sony ECM-CS10 is used for extended videotaped deposition interviews with my sound mixer. I run the mic to an XLR adapter and then into an audio mixer and adjust the sound from there before feeding into my video camera. Great for long interviews. I never have to worry if the battery is getting weak or failing. I just pick up my camera gear and take off for the job. I like the feel and the touch of the braided cloth cable which also helps reduce some noise if the cable is touched. The swivel tie-clip is good because unlike metal clips it does not snag clothing if accidently pulled when people forget they are wearing them. The clip also has two legs that slide down to offer a stable base for using the mic as a table mic vs. a lapel mic. The L-shaped plug helps reduce accidental disconnects as well. The sound quality seems to be fine and comparable to other mics in this price range. Two, not so great things. 1st the length of the cord at 1 meter is just too short. It needs to be longer (5-6 ft). 2nd the mic should have been black not silver to minimize its presence during a vide shoot. I recommend you give the Sony ECM-CS10 a try if you are looking for an inexpensive lavaliere mic when you don't want to worry about batteries.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not useful for weddings This mic sounds very good but it's of absolutely no use for weddings. The cord is way too thick and rigid and the mic its self is quite big and heavy. The thick rigid cord is the worst part for me. Great for placing on a table but no good for clipping onto a groom. I'm going to try the Olympus ME-15 tie clip microphone....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good wired lavalier microphone. Just to start very good materials on the construction. Feels and look durable and reliable. I don't know if you can really use it in a table to take sound from group of persons on a table for example. It is not the best in terms of sound but do its job. It is a little tricky set it in your clothes because is stereo and you have to try to align both channels to hear a good voice from subject. can easy turn and record just one channel with good sound. I have this and a shotgun microphone for my personal video projects. I am a photographer learning something of video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Mic!!!! As a speaker that often has to post my messages on various networks, I can tell you this mic is incredible!!! It records with great clarity, does not need batteries which is a huge plus, and I've used this for years. I gave someone mine when I went to London recently and just purchased another. I recommend this product without reservation. Enjoy :-)
