Leica 40253 overview

  • 1Description

Compact and lightweight, the Leica 10x25 Ultravid BR Binocular delivers the views users have come to expect from the brand, with an easy to use and convenient to carry form factor.

It is designed with a combination of phase-corrected BAK4 roof prisms, the proprietary HighLux system, and HDC fully multi-coated optics to produce bright and clear color-neutral images, while fitting comfortably in the hand for long, fatigue-free glassing sessions. The HDC coatings add abrasion resistance to protect the exterior lens surfaces, and the lenses are also treated with AquaDura coatings which make it easy to clean dirt, grime, oils, sap, and fingerprints without leaving residues that can interfere with views.

Designed to easily fit in a pocket, pack, or purse, the binocular is made with a dual-hinge system that allows the optical tubes to fold and tuck under the closed bridge to ensure the smallest form factor when fully closed. This also provides a wide interpupillary distance adjustment for easier use by those with narrow faces — like children and adolescents. Helping to reduce the weight to a mere nine ounces is an aluminum alloy chassis that is wrapped in a matte-black rubber armor that provides a slip-resistant grip that feels comfortable in the hand, especially in cold and wet weather.

Light, compact, and easy to use while delivering bright and clear images, the Ultravid is made to be your constant companion on the trail, at the stadium, or sightseeing around the world.

Optical Performance
  • Powerful 10x magnification allows for detailed observations of distant subjects
  • Compact 25mm objective lenses ensure slim optical tubes to maintain a compact form
  • BAK4 roof prisms deliver a round exit pupil, and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • P40 phase-correcting prism coating increases light transmission while improving contrast and clarity
  • HDC fully multi-coated system has abrasion-resistant and anti-reflection properties to protect exterior lens surfaces, and improve light transmission and contrast
  • HighLux-System (HLS) maximizes light throughput to improve color rendition and contrast
  • Hydrophobic AquaDura coating on external optical surfaces allows dirt, dust, and fingerprints to be removed easily
Use and Handling
  • Closed-bridge/dual-hinge configuration provides a sturdy platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Textured long, yet low-profile, center focusing wheel helps to maintain an overall compact form while still being easy to manipulate
  • Wide 34-74mm interpupillary distance range accommodates use by a wide variety of users — especially those with narrow faces like children and adolescents
  • ±3.5 right-eye dioptric correction allows user to compensate for optical prescription
  • Twist-up rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • 15mm eye relief makes long-duration glassing sessions more comfortable with reduced eye strain
  • 2.5mm exit pupil

Leica 40253 reviews

10x25 Ultravid BR Binocular (Black Rubber) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ultimate compact binocular! I use compact binoculars mostly for travel because of their small size. I debated whether to up grade to the Ultravid 10X25 binoculars because I already own the Trinovid 10X25 binoculars which are excellent. The casual observer will find it difficult to compare the two binoculars but the Ultravid binoculars are brighter. The image of both binoculars is excellent. The slightly higher eye point of the Ultravid binoculars is an advantage if you use eyeglasses. The improved waterproofing of the Ultravid is good for inclement weather. The construction and cosmetics of the Ultravid binoculars are first rate. They are expensive but worth it to the critical observer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Typical Leica product...it is awesome! I wanted a very high quality, high(er) powered set of binoculars that were portable/pocketable yet bright and rugged. Of all the various Leica products I have had over the years, this is another product from them that fits the bill perfectly. It takes a little getting used to holding them steady, but the focus knurl is in the correct place for ease of use, these are very bright and provide an almost 3D effect due to the outstanding optics. If you can, compare then at a dealer alongside the Nikon, Swarov. or any comparable model, but beware, you will buy these. Like all Leica products, this will be the last pair you will ever need to buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp take any where Use: Avid birder These binoculars are very light weight and very sharp. Because of their small object lens (25 mm) it does take a little getting use to training them onto your object of interest. Saying that, the size allows me to take them with me where ever I go. No more I wish I had my binos. These are like the best camera, which is the one you have with you. These binoculars go beyond just having a set to have with you but are spectacularly crisp and clear. Worth the premium price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly bright and clear I have used Canon's 10x 30 binoculars on African safaris for the past 13 years. Our friend showed us his Leica 10x 25's on our last safari and I was impressed. When I received my Ultravids, I found them brighter and clearer than I had remembered. I can now have my binoculars hanging from my neck in addition to my big dslr and 100-400 mm. lens and not suffer a sore neck. The binocs are easy to use, and while I loved the Canon's image stabilization, I find that I don't really need it with the super light Ultravids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best compromise for 1-binocular use I do not make extensive use of binoculars. I want only one that is compact enough to serve as opera glasses and powerful enough to use comfortably from the railing of a ship or in a wild-life preserve. The Ultravid 10x25 fits the bill for me. The 8x25 may work as well for someone with a need for greater compactness (about 1 inch shorter), but I chose to not sacrifice power. Theaters and preserves tend to be bathed in bright light; consequently, I saw no need for an 8x40. Others may wish to sacrifice compactness to gain the latter's light gathering power. The Leica Ultravid 10x25 is as sharp as this manufacturer's lenses. I can't imagine better. When the user is not wearing glasses, the binocular's diopter wheel offers perfect compensation for a brilliantly sharp image. When one wears glasses, the diopter should be left on zero. You will still find good relief with your ability to hold the binoculars about 2/3 inch from your eyes. Although power 10 is about the limit of hand hold-ability, I find the image quite stable. Focus is close enough for my purposes, but I do believe the 8x25 allows closer focus. This is my perfect one-binocular solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything as a Leica should be A perfect addition to my wife's outdoor gear. Extremely bright and sharp and LIGHTWEIGHT! Obvious quality construction. The carry case leaves a little to be desired. No easy way to carry the binocs expanded, and no front lens caps...rear ones though. Overall a superb product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from first impressions very positive First impressions are not as reliable as an analysis based on extensive use, but the first impressions on the 10x25 Ultravid are so positive that I'm hopeful they won't be fleeting. These are my first Leica binocs. I've used them on a few hikes and have found them to be sharp as a tack and surprisingly bright. The latter is a real plus when daylight starts fading. The build seems to be of the high quality that the price should command. I found them easy to get used to in terms of focusing and keeping steady -- it is important to anchor the binocs to your head by whatever position of hands or fingers seems natural and comfortable to you. Be sure to use the diagram in the user manual to fasten the caps to the supplied strap. Clever, convenient, and sure to keep you from losing the caps. The case seems a little on the large size considering the wonderfully compact size of the binocs, but that slightly loose fit makes getting the binocs in and out of the case easy. I hope I'm as happy with these a year from now as I am now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy-to-love binoculars ... I use these binoculars as an all-around tool, from sky watching and boating to going to the opera (admittedly their field of view is really not optimal for this purpose - too small by far - but they're great for looking at the singers themselves). All in all, really great: optics are superb, the adjustments are easy to do (esp. the way the diopter adjustment is handled, using the central focussing knob), and their size and weight make them a pleasure to tote around. A really well-designed and implemented set of binoculars ...
