Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 MC Overview

A normal-length prime lens designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras, the Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 MC from Voigtlander blends the comfortable, unique focal length with an especially bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, which benefits working in low-light conditions as well as offering increased control over depth of field. The lens also has a manual focus design, for working with subjects as close as 2.3', and has a 10-blade diaphragm for a smooth bokeh quality.

Unique 40mm focal length offers a 56° angle of view that is slightly wider than the classic 50mm length, yet narrower than the standard 35mm wide-angle.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and offers increased control over depth of field.
This multi-coated version of the Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 produces vivid yet accurate colors along with high contrast and saturation, making it well-suited for general shooting applications.
Manual focus design permits smooth, refined control along with a minimum focusing distance of 2.3'.
A 10-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Compatible with optional LH-6 lens hood.

question

I have a Sony A7. Does focus peaking work on this lens with an adapter? Additionally does BH sell the MFD adapter for the lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, focus peaking will work on the A7 using this lens. The Hawks Leica M to Sony E mount lens will enable a closer minimum focusing distance, B&H #HAHKSLM2SEMH.

question

Will this fit in Lumix gh2?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 M-Mount Lens is an M-mount lens, not a Micro Four Thirds lens, so it would not be directly compatible with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 Mirrorless Digital Camera without the use of an adapter. As such, I would recommend the Metabones Leica M Lens to Micro Four Thirds Lens Mount Adapter (Black), B&H # MELMM43BM2, to connect the lens onto your GH2 Digital Camera.

For a filmmakers would you recommend single or multi coat?
Asked by: Tyler
I don't shoot any video. So I can't comment on the question about single vs multi coatings. I will say that multi-coatings are intended to reduce flare and other artifacts, so if flare is part of your visual vocabulary for film, you likely will get more with the single coated version.
