I am loving this boom arm! I saw Joel Grimes use this arm in his photo shoots and decided to get one for myself and I have not regretted it. It's easy to use and strong enough to hold my strobes. I am very happy with my purchase and recommend it to everyone.

Exactly what I was looking for to extend my strobes

This boom is excellent as it allows me to extend my strobes into the position that I want.

Slips When Arm Is Extended

When extending the arm to hold a Godox SK400II and a Bowens softbox over the top of an item on a table, the arm slips. It took 35 Lbs. of sandbags to counter balance it to get it to stay up and not slowly fall down on top of the table. The arm it not rated for a load capacity of 35 Lbs of sandbags plus the weight of the light and softbox! I wish I could return it!

Works Fine

This is the only boom I have ever owned so I have nothing to compare it to. However, it works very well. It is well built, adjusts easily, stays in position, and is a lot more sturdy than I expected. I am quite pleased with this purchase.

My favorite mini boom arm!

I have one in black and have been wanting to get one in chrome for several years to match my rolling junior stands but never bothered, until now as I'm getting new studio gear. My preference is for the Avenger over the Matthews version. I like the metal handles on this version. Both have solid build quality. Cannot go wrong with either.

It works just the way it should

It works just the way it should. It's sturdy, well made of reliable chromed steel, and the controls are tight as they should be. The only way it could be improved is for it to have been made with a 1 and 1/8 inch junior pin to attach to a junior receivers on a larger and heavier type light stands, but I understand that most photographers don't use stands that are the size and price of most junior stands, so that is unrealistic for manufacturers who want to sell their products in greater numbers.

Changed out the handle

I like this boom for the price. Couldn't get it to tighten down enough with the handle that is on there. Couldn't get enough leverage. I took a large grip head handle and screwed that on. Solved my problem. Can get a good grip on it now and works perfectly. Here are some photos for anyone else interested in doing this.

Swear by this thing

Of all the lighting gear in my kit, this boom almost always gets used. Such a good tool for toppy light, or getting units and stands further away from the frame, My friend ended up bending the black one beyond usability, so I bought a chrome one as a replacement. It does seem to be a little more sturdy.

Avenger is a very high quality brand of the Manfrotto Group that makes products for the cinematography market. They are manufactured in Italy. These are from the best quality as well as are those from Matthews Grip Equipment.

Will the Manfrotto 123 Super Boom Pivot Clamp fit this boom?
Asked by: Jonathan
No, that product has its own mounting points (we call them "receivers") for a boom and for attaching to a stand. This product, the Avenger D600CB Mini Boom (Black) (BH# AVD600CB), will attach to a C stand or other heavy duty light stand that has a 5/8" stud on top. Another name for a 5/8" stud is a "baby pin."

question

*Black or chrome?
Asked by: Mark
Which do you prefer? Because that's what it's going to come down to.Chrome may reflect light back into a set. Though I've yet to see that happen.Black possibly could retain more heat is used outdoors.Chrome generally is easier to see on a dark set.Black might be considered cooler looking than chrome. My chrome D600 works perfectly well with my decades old C-stands. So yeah, pick the one you like.

question

Are there any portable stands this boom can work with? All the recommended ones seem to be very heavy and not for on location shooting. Thanks.
Asked by: Anonymous
I had been using this boom with a sand bagged C-stand and it worked just fine though I have since mounted on a KUPO rolling stand for greater flexibility/stability.
