    Libec ZC-3DV Reviews

Zoom Control for DV Cameras is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 219.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for now, Bad long term We have had this control connected to a Panasonic HPX170 for almost 2 years. The camera is setup in our church worship center and gets regular use every sunday for 3 services. At first it did the job just fine but over time the controller became less sensitive and would have a very jerky start to the zoom. After a year and a half it became almost useless. It wouldn't zoom at all sometimes or it would start zooming in and out erratically which is really bad in a live camera situation. We have cleaned the inside components a few times which fixed the issue temporarily. I think it's time to get a new one/different one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! Broke someone's Varizoom and gave them my Canon zoom control, until I could get their unit fixed. Turns out I had to get a replacement. Bought the Libec instead. After using it myself, I'm going to let them keep my Canon. The Canon has all the focus and other bells and whistles, which I don't use. I used the Libec was used on a six-hour basketball shoot, with no previous practice with it. Like others have said, it's very smooth. Nothing flashy, beyond zoom and record/pause control. The click everyone is referring to was actually a welcome feature for me. It let me know I was recording/pausing. Great unit at a great price!...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Save on this to Spend Somewhere Else Purchasing a Libec Camera Remote is a great way to save money without sacrificing functionality and use those saved dollars to purchase gear that must be OEM. The Libec Video Camera Remote is as reliable and functional as it's OEM counterpart for about one third the cost. Sometimes you got to have the OEM gear but in this case the availability of a comparable replacement makes great sense for any business plan. The only thing that I somewhat miss is a variable speed setting for the zoom. The zoom speed is dependent on pressure applied but the toggel action is smooth and spring retention is consistant to enable smooth zooms with a little pratice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works with my Panasonic AF 102 I needed a record on/off control on my fluid head arm for my Panasonic AF102 (AF100 in the USA), and this works well for this purpose. The zoom function is no use for this camera, but for others that need this function for a camera with a zoom lens, this will be useful. The build seems good and the attachment mechanism works well. I am happy with the purchase. A word of caution. It has a switch with either sends a Panasonic identified signal or a LANC signal. Be careful you don't switch it by accident when filming as your camera will then not recognise it. This can be frustrating the first time it happens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Fantastic Having worked as a motion picture camera man for over thirty years I recently acquired a pro HD camera. The 1st thing I checked was the zoom rocker arm. I was greatly disappointed to see the zoom lurch into motion and not be able to creep. I am used to Panavision and Arriflex zooms that can creep so slow as to bury a zoom. But I had purchased a Libec Zoom with LANC capacity for my Cannon XA-20. Without the Libec all zoom rockers on the camera are jerky on the start and zoom too fast, with a jerky stop. With the Libec, the camera becomes professional. The zoom will start slow and creep or gain speed that you choose. Also you get your hands back on the pan arm where they should be. This is a fantastic product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent zoom control I do video of trams and Swiss narrow-gauge railways. Especially for the trams, pullback zooms are often necessary to maximize the onscreen image time. Previously used a Sony tripod with built-in zoom control, but it couldn't connect to a new AX2000. This controller is easy to use, smooth, and satisfactory in every way - has been used on four photography trips. I was recently editing some older footage shot with the previous tripod, and was surprised at how much better and smoother the scenes are with this Libec controller. It was recommended by the B&H rep I spoke to, and he was right on the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for me This zoom control is perfect for me. I use this control with my Sony AX-2000 on my tripod for churches, events and Livestream broadcasts. All of the other controls have to many buttons and to many are not variable speed. This control has a REC button and the variable zoom rocker. It can be controlled without having to take your eyes off of your subject. The zoom rocker has a wide range of motion so it is easy to achieve the zoom speed you want without any trouble. The only thing I don't like is the color. I wish it was black like the picture. It is a little lighter than the rest of my equipment and that causes it to stand out. It seems durable and well built and it is inexpensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much better than what I expected!! I run 3 Canon G20 camcorders for my wedding videography business and I'm kicking myself repeatedly for not buying these controllers 3 years ago when I started the business. I finally broke down last week and bought one to test it out. Once it arrived I tested it out, ran back to my computer, and immediately ordered 2 more. I wasn't sure how much better they would perform than the toggle at the top of the camera, but it's unbelievably more forgiving and smooth. I really thought I would only be saving my arms from having to reach up all the time, but the level of control impressed me way beyond that. If you're thinking about buying a controller and you're not overly concerned with extras like focus control, this is absolutely a must buy. I may eventually upgrade to one that has more bells & whistles, but for now I'm officially a raving fan.

Does this work with the Sony dcr trv27 camcorder?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Sorry, wired zoom controls do not work with the Sony DCR-TRV27. The one option is the wireless Remote Commander that came with the camcorder. It only works from in front of the camera however.

how long is the control cable?
    Asked by: Anonymous
It's about 22 . Both ends are the same size plug, one is straight and the other is a right angle. The controller has two places to plug the cable in: one on the far end, and one on the left side next to the Lanc/P switch.
