ZEISS Biogon T* 21mm f/2.8 ZM Overview

Balancing a super-wide focal length with a compact form factor, the black Biogon T* 21mm f/2.8 ZM from ZEISS is a versatile lens designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Its wide-angle design is complemented by a Biogon optical concept, which nearly eliminates distortion for well-corrected, accurate rendering. Biogon optical concept benefits the super-wide focal length by helping to virtually eliminate distortion for clean, realistic rendering.
ZEISS T* anti-reflective coatings have been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections in order to provide greater image clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 1.6'.

question

Again how well does this lens deal with the sun ? Does this lens have a round hood available and will it be reversible ? for this price it should have options. Buying mainly for its smaller size than GM lenses.
Asked by: Chris
This lens can perform well in the sun. The lens hood available for this lens is square and non reversible.

question

How would this compare with the ZF ZE line of zeiss manual focus lenses? Would you get similar performance on a full frame Sony camera?
Asked by: Stone
Don't really know. I bought the ZM for my Leica M240 and have been extremely pleased. Very sharp and crisp, even when wide open. Very nice glass.

question

Does this take the round hoods ? How well does this sense deal with flare from sun ?Chris
Asked by: Chris
Chris - I am not a big fan of lens hoods on ultra-wide lens as there is a risk of vignetting. A lens hood would only provide a very minor shade covering for a 21mm anyway. Besides a Leica, I also shoot with a Nikon 800e with an ultra-wide angle...I just do not bother with the useless hood that came with the lens. If sun flare may be an issue, I usually just use my hand to shade the lens (obviously keeping my hand out of the photo!). Otherwise, use a tripod and something like a card, your hand, a hat, etc to shade the lens from the flare. Great lens for wide landscapes. Cheers, Kent
