Azden WLX-PRO reviews

WLX-PRO VHF Wireless Lavalier Microphone System (F1/F2 Frequencies) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 154.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tip for use with a laptop This is more of a tip than a review but I wanted to post it here for others to see... This mic will work well with the receiver plugged into a laptop if you use a cable from the earphone jack! If you use the standard line out from the receiver the audio quality will be too low and you won't hear much at all. You'll need a plug that has male on both ends. Mine is stereo which supplied audio to both channels even though it is really mono sound. I've only tested this a bit but the audio quality seems to be pretty good, especially for my use case. I agree with others that this device feels a little cheap, but it was! I hope it holds up under use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why pay more if you don't REALLY need to If you don't need to, why spend 2-4 times as much for the UHF models. Sure they might have a bit heavier construction than the Azden WLX-PRO, and sure VHF is more prone to interference than UHF, and sure it doesn't work fifty meters away, and yes, it only has 2 channels; BUT when in the church, reception hall, outside for the ceremony, etc. the WLX-PRO gets me the same signal quality as my sennheiser at 1/4th the price... if you got the extra $ to spend, go for the 'big-boy' price-tags/products or get what works for a cheaper price and pocket the $ or better yet, give it back to your customers to get more referrals!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Pay For What You Get As a documentary artist, capturing the most genuine moments requires being prepared for the right gear for the job. From doing assignments for clients to designing personal projects for myself, these Lavalier Microphones provide just the right amount of frequency for the perfect sound. While at times the mic can catch on a subject's clothing or become static from being too far, irregardless, they are some of the best gear I've ever invested in. They fit in my camera bag nicely, battery life is impeccable, and is compatible with most DSLR's. I highly recommend anyone who is looking to take their photojournalism/documentary filmmaking career to the next level and is on a budget, these are the ones for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Fine and Does the Job I was looking for this product at local stores, but none carried a lapel mic (surprising). I even went to my local music equipment shop, but they only had one brand and more than I needed. I remembered B&H so I ordered online and it came on time and works great. It's s simple system so it's hard to goof up. WARNING: BE CAREFUL with the weak belt clip. I'm not that big (not skinny either), but when I stooped down while wearing the transmitter it popped off the belt clip (not off the belt). The belt clip connector actually came off the device. Fortunately, I caught it as I stood up and it did not fall and hit the concrete. Just be careful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reasonable choice for the money? Since purchasing from B&H, I've used this mic a couple of times as the external mic for my video camera. I recorded a lecture with the receiver about 40 ft. away from the transmitter and found that the sound quality was reasonable but I experienced a couple of static-y dropouts when the speaker moved around a bit. That was disappointing and disconcerting but perhaps not that surprising considering the price and basic nature of this unit. I also used this for an outdoor interview with the transmitter and receiver only about 15 ft apart. No problems and the included wind screen did a surprisingly good job eliminating wind noise from a moderate breeze. As other reviewers have noted, construction is a little on the flimsy side. All plastic. I'm going to be careful using the belt clip; it seems susceptible to breakage. On the pro side, I've owned more expensive wireless lav systems that do not include off/on switches on the transmitter and receiver as this one does. I bought this for two reasons: 1) it seemed to have decent sound quality for a modest price and 2) it uses the mini-plug connector that's compatible with my small consumer video camera (no XLR input). For an inexpensive mini-plug mic, I think this is a reasonable purchase. We'll see how durable it is over time. I would recommend this mic to friends who understand its limitations (occasional dropout at longer distances, somewhat flimsy construction) and need a mini-plug connection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty impressive for this price point I wanted a wireless system and wasn't excited to spend six or seven hundred dollars to get one. I ran across the Azden and gave it a go. I'm impressed. The housing/clip on the units is a little flimsy, but the output's great. Make sure and add a female mono to male stereo plug as the jack on the Azden is mono. The adapter will save time in post. The unit is easy to operate and the sound quality is pretty good. The audio's pretty clean. Azden has certainly found a niche. The unit's worth the money and I'd recommend it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor performance and weak sound I was shocked upon receiving this product after all the reviews I had read here. The audio was VERY soft coming out of this product causing me to have to max out my mixer into the camera. This introduced a buzzing sound that was very audible in post. I returned this set and went with the Audio-Technica ATW-701 Wireless BodyPack Microphone System for only about $30 more. The different is night and day. If you can deal with the limitation of having to be near an outlet for the receiver, the Audio-Technica kit blows this set out of the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, Great Purchase I use it for interviews, but mainly, to record a reality series my company and partnering company are filming. They are awesome. We weren't looking for something extreme, just good enough to handle the two main stairs. What we needed didn't require a boom. No buzz or feedback. The quality is absolutely great.
