Capture quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the Rode NTG2 shotgun microphone. With low handling noise, the ability to endure loud sound sources before distortion, and support for battery or phantom power, the NTG2 offers a versatile, cost-effective solution for recording clean dialogue and sound effects.

The NTG2's elevated sensitivity allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG2 delivers consistently clear sound due in part to its gentle rise in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing selectable low-cut filter. The durable and lightweight high-grade aluminum housing is finished in hard-wearing epoxy paint to withstand the stress of location recording.

Quality Sound Capture

The combination of the NTG2's 11" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused front-facing directionality and enhanced attenuation of sound entering from the sides. Its low self-noise of 18 dBA and sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

Battery or Phantom Powered

Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and operability with 48V phantom power or a single AA battery, the NTG2 is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on cameras and camcorders.

Ideal for Boompole Mounting

The NTG2 includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG2 in the Rode SM4-R shockmount or Rode PG2-R pistol grip (both available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations in boompole or handheld applications.

Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise

The NTG2 has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

This is a directional condenser microphone. It is sensitive to picking up many different things if you are close enough to the sound source by a few feet.

question

what is the difference between this and the rde videomic pro
Asked by: Nachiketh
The Rode VideoMic Pro is designed as a compact camera mountable solution. Generally used with DSLR or smaller camcorders. Both offer great sound quality, however since directionality of the pickup is related to the length of the mic tube, the NTG-2 offers a more narrow pickup and more effective at rejecting surrounding ambience.

Will this work with an IPhone 12? If so, will I need accessories: which one(s)?
Asked by: Steve
This uses an XLR output, so you could potentially use it, but you would need a device to give you an XLR in for iOS. I'm not certain of which device would do that, but you would want to be sure it gave you mic sensitivity controls or you will likely not be happy with results. Your best option for this in a iOS work flow is to use this with an external recorder/mixer and film with dual system sound. Using this with something like a small Tascam or Zoom handy recorder that gives you a 3.5mm (headphone style) output to camera with a lightning to 3.5mm input on the phone might be the best option to give you embedded audio on the iPhone track.

Will this work with an Iphone 12? If so, do I need accessories--which one(s)?
Asked by: Steve
It can...but you will need a female XLR to 3.5mm cable, and then 3.5mm TRRS to lightning adapter. I’m sure that Gotham Sound might be able to make a custom cable for that.
