Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 Reviews

Great lens on my Z6

I rediscovered this lens in my drawer from the film days and slapped it on my Z6. It's fantastic! Super-sharp, and it renders beautifully. I use the Kipon adapter, which is smaller and lighter than the Nikon FTZ, since autofocus is out of the question. Great walk-around lens.

I don't usually shoot wider than 35mm, but because I have a 40mm but no 35mm for my Nikons I wanted a 28mm and this is fantastic. Solidly built, smooth focus and aperture rings.

I love it. I really love it.

Joy To Use

I love this lens its a joy to use.  I use it on a D7200 and a D750 and will often take just this lens and either body when I want to go light.  On the D7200 it is the equivalent of a 42mm which for me is the ideal field of view.  I use it on the D750 when I need a wide angle often with the 1.2x crop for the equivalent of a 35mm on the D750.  Picture IQ and build quality are superb.

One of the best lenses I ever used

I was loaned a 28/2.8 Ai-s by a friend when I first began shooting Nikon, long long ago. I instantly fell in love, and after he asked for me to return it I immediately went I bought a copy of my own. I've used it on just about every kind of Nikon camera you could imagine, it is so good that I even used it for a while on the D90 which can't meter with Ai-s lenses. All I can say is that, in every case, the lens is pixel-to-pixel sharp. In other words, one pixel is bright white, and the adjacent pixel is pitch black, capturing huge contrast over the smallest scale that can be resolved by the camera, even at the highest resolutions I've shot (D810) it performs this way. It is light, it is indestructible, there are no wearable parts, there is no distortion, CA is not an issue at all, and it feels like a magical gem in my hands with the beautiful action of the focus ring. Is there a downside? Not really. If you try hard, you can get some flare with this lens, particularly with a dirty clear filter and the Sun hanging just outside the field of view...I found that a HN-2 hood works perfectly to mitigate these situations, if you must shoot toward the Sun. You should also know that this lens is highly rated for reverse macro, get a Nikon BR-2A reversal ring and you can get 2x magnifications. If you put on some extension tubes, you can easily push this to 4x or higher (although you will probably need flash). I'm amazed at the high quality of the reverse mounted shots, the lens was NOT designed to work this way by Nikon, but it was built so well that it does a marvelous job anyways. If you will only own one Nikon manual lens...this is it!

Super Lens, Great Value

As a nature photographer, this lens is a 'must have for my bag. It is one of the lightest lenses you will find, anywhere (250g), it is extremely sharp, and (best of all) you can buy a Nikon BR-2A adapter, flip the lens around, and use it for super-macro photography (2.1x), giving you essentially 2 lenses for the price of one. You get a good wide angle and a super-macro lens in one purchase. It doesn't get any better than that.

A great walk around lens. Sharp images and micro capabilities as a bonus. Rarely have a need for my 50mm lens anymore as this 55mm matches it in every way except speed. Priced at a bargain $399 and as always shipped promptly - thank you B&H!

Sharp
