Nikon AH-4 Reviews

AH-4 Hand Grip Strap for Cameras is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 134.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mostly Right! I use this on my D750 in situations where I want the camera immediately available at all times. The half that your hand fits in is acceptable for it's purpose. In fact, pretty good. The other, metal, half that attaches it to the base of the camera brings to mind something that you might win in an arcade with the Claw- that is, cheap and nearly useless. I replaced it with a Kirk camera plate and now I can use this hand strap with my tri/mono pods with the Arca-Swiss quick release system. I think that it's a pretty expensive item to have to replace half of it to make it function but much of Nikon's ancillary gear is like that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Valuable Accessory to your DSLR Camera A valuable accessory when carrying your DSLR camera. Being an extension of your arm it lightens the weight of your camera. It is very secure, comfortable, especially after several days use, and quick to release. BUT combine it with a Back Rapid RS 7 curved shoulder strap you have the perfect combination needed for the enthusiastic camera traveller. You can quickly attach the RS 7 strap to the Nikon AH-4 Hand Grip Strap and release the AH-4 to free both hands. With both attached to the camera it makes it even lighter. I have just spent 4 weeks travelling the USA and Canada with a Nikon D600 with a 28-300mm lens and never felt uncomfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a gripmthat works I have tried a lot of hand grips none of which worked all that well (hard to adjust, did not stay attached to the tripod socket well, too large for small hands), ffinally decided to try the one from Nikon. Finally a hand grip that works with or without the motor drive, easy to adjust over a wide range of hand sizes (mine are small, partner's are very large and works very well for us both). Yes, it is pricier than others but the leather is high quality, attachment to the camera is simple and well designed, and the grip it self is easy to put on and take off and quickly adjustable. No complaints. Quality always costs a bit more.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cheap at Half the Price! I needed something to attach my D800 to my hand as traditional neck/shoulder straps aren't always the most convenient. This grip is by far the best that I have found and if it were sold at a reasonable price I likely would be pleased with my purchase. As it is, this grip is grossly overpriced. Nikon has a well earned reputation for the excellent performance of most of their high-end cameras. They have an equally well earned reputation for offering second rate equipment at their lower price points and for gouging loyal customers committed to the Nikon brand. Knowing this, I still bought it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heads up on GREAT STRAP Owning only heavy 2.8 glass, this strap is an essential part of my shooting comfort! However, be aware it takes time to break it in. And it takes patience to learn how to adjust it to make it comfortable. One trick I found was to attach the top strap to a small, secure clip -- this does two things. 1) it makes it more adjustable (i.e. functional!) especially for people with bigger hands. 2) it makes it easy to take it off if you want to switch to an over-the-shoulder strap alone. I personally use this strap in combo with a Black Rapid RS7. I could not do without this strap!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and secure Love this strap. It has a cinch mechanism for easy tightening and easy release. It is very comfortable on the wrist. Also very secure on the camera. It has a triple slide, that allows you to also attach a shoulder strap, which I usually do. I use mine with a RRS L plate. I removed the Nikon plate on the hand strap and threaded the webbing through the L plate strap lug. Now I can still mount the camera on a tripod via the L-plate without removing the hand strap. Only downside is the cost. Nikon's design is very smart (says the Canon owner.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for D750 This review is for my Nikon D750 only. This strap may work well on other cameras. The tripod adapter plate that attaches to the base of the camera presses on the bottom of the digital screen on the back of the camera preventing it from opening to tilt position. Re: the strap itself. It appears to be well made. However, I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to attach the strap end with the release tab through the D rings and back to the Velcro. The instructions were not helpful. I could not find a photo or video of how to attach this strap anywhere online that showed how to do this either. There were a few straps with quick release clasps that looked to work well. That's what this strap needs. I will be returning this strap and looking for another.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BEST Hand Grip!! After spending two years of looking for a more reasonably priced alternative, I finally decided to purchase this. Other than the price, I have absolutely no complaints. It's very secure and adjustable. When you first strap it on, you might think to yourself that it might be overkill. However, when you take your camera out around town, to family parties, events, etc. you won't have to worry about the dropsees when you're setting up a shot a get bumped by people. When using a tripod, you can loosen the strap so that you hand can slip in and out without impedance. If you can bring yourself to look beyond the price, you'll find that this is best hand strap you'll ever buy.
