Olympus ME-15 reviews

ME-15 Tie Clip Microphone for DS-4000 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Unlikely Use I'm using this microphone as the sound gathering point in a home-built parabolic microphone (couldn't afford the professional model Telinga). Using the tie clip affixed to a short piece of wire, I've centered the little mike to the focal point of an 18 inch diameter mixing bowl, and I've found that the ME-15 has worked wonders at picking up bird calls, which I then record on to an Olympus LS-10 field recorder. The sound quality is, perhaps, a little on the hollow side, but that may be the fault of the mixing bowl, which is not a true parabola.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for semi-professional use I am a wedding cinematographer who just started last year,so I was on a tight budget. I read a million lav mic reviews and I read mixed reviews for this mic. In the end though it was super cheap and there were some good reviews so I finally bought it. I was disappointed. The amount of background noise was unacceptable for professional or even semi-professional use. I had to do a lot of tweaking in post and I still wasn't happy with the end result (although to be fair, my specialty is with video not audio). Anyway, I understand how it could be acceptable for student filmmakers just starting out but I would suggest spending a little more, especially if you are really trying to make it in the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't judge the book by it's cover I use it with the go pro camera for conversation purposes. I like the compact size, that's what I was looking for with the go pro, easy to work with. The sound quality is very good and clear. It is not very loud because it's mono, but it's easily fixable by turning the volume up, or in my editing software, just copy the sound and paste it into an other track, and pull one track to the left, pull the other track to the right turns it into stereo sound, and gets louder to the normal stereo sound level, only takes a few seconds to do. It work the best for a closer distances, but that's just fine because I don't want the background noise anyway... Overall I like it, I'm very happy with it, just what I was looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with my Zoom H1 Although I had heard great things about the Audio-Technica ATR-35S Lavalier Microphone working well with the zoom h1, the output level was way too low. With the ME-15, it works great. I plug the ME-15 into the zoom, hide the zoom inside the talents pocket, and sync to my footage in post. Great audio quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from tie clip microphone...perfect! Before ordering this product I was concerned about it plugging into my Sony digital voice recorder. But was reassured by the tech support man that it would be fine...and it was. The product was at my door within a few days and the quality of sound is great! I recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Microphone for GoPro Hero2 I bought this microphone for my new GoPro Hero2 camera. It was unclear to me how this would work for my use because GoPro recommended a powered microphone, which this is not. I'm using it in my aviation headset to capture the radio/intercom audio. It worked really well for this. I'm not sure how it would work at a concert or the like, where you are trying to capture a broad range of frequencies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works with TASCAM Recorders This is a decent microphone and works well with Plug-In Power and does not need it's own battery. It works well with the TASCAM recorders such as the DR-08. This microphone has good low end without getting boomy. It is not as bright (lower highs) as it should be but still produces decent vocal recordings. I would give it more stars if it had a better frequency response. The right angle, mono, 1/8 plug is sturdy and good for personal recorders. The tie clip is chrome and looks terrible. I do not recommend using it with video because it reflects lights, causing flashes. Find another mount. It handles wind well and has relatively low handling noise (for mic and cable) compared to other lapel microphones. This is very useable microphone, although not quite good enough for a professional recording. It is adequate for lectures and web streaming audio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A terrific microphone I use it with my Williams Pocket talker and it works nicely with that. A nice, obscure mic. I agree that it would be better if the tie clip were black. Where I go with a Williams sound transmitter and wireless listening devices, I do not use this mic becasue it picks up all the noise of the open space, but, otherwise, it is a great portable mic.
