Optional Nikon eyepiece diopters allow you to optimize your SLR viewfinder's sharpness in conjunction with your individual eyesight. Nikon SLR cameras (without built-in adjustable eyepiece correction) have a base diopter value of minus one. Minus one is considered the optimum starting point for the majority of SLR users with normal vision. The combination of the camera's viewfinder components and a clear (standard) eyepiece form a virtual image of a subject on the camera's focusing screen that is the approximate equivalent of a viewing distance of one meter.

Each Nikon eyepiece diopter incorporates a numerical value, represented by a minus value (nearsighted) or a plus value (farsighted) number, enabling you to select the appropriate diopter for your vision and your camera model.

The eyepiece's diopter value is, when combined with the viewfinders minus one value, the end-result value. No combination of the camera's base value of minus one and a given accessory diopter's value is required to arrive at the final desired value. In other words, if you require a diopter of plus 3, simply add a plus 3 diopter to your camera.

+2 Diopter for FM2/FE2/FA is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Is this Nikon diopter true +2 ? The Nikon '+2 Diopter' I bought from B&H is OK but not as sharp, or as correct, as my Leica +2 diopter. My Leica +2 diopter fully corrects my vision and gives a sharp, clean image. The Nikon diopter (which is rated as being the exact same strength - i.e., +2) is not very sharp and seems to be off by about 10% -25%. So, in other words, I have to focus the lens (manual focus) back and forth until I get it at its sharpest point - but never actually sharp. The Leica diopter I use on my M6 gives me exact sharpness, so I can actually see when its perfectly focused - no back and forth guesswork. But, still, I can see significantly better with the Nikon diopter than without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great also for Fuji GF670 I needed a diopter for my Fujifilm GF670, and after reading somewhere in the internet that these Nikon diopters were compatible with my camera, I ordered one. It does fit perfectly and it works as expected, highly recommended. It also fits my Nikon FM3A, of course.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from optic quality is not good I bought it for GF670 rangefinder to be able to use camera while wearing contact lenses instead of putting on my reader glasses of the same +2 strength. The diopter unfortunately does not do a good job. It compensates properly in the corners, but in the center the picture is still blurred. I am not sure if it happens because the diopter is not designed for rangefinder camera, but I cannot use on GF670.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has metal eyepiece not rubber I RMAed this item due to the fact that the metal outer eyepiece was scratching my glasses. I need to find a diopter with a rubber eyepiece. Other than that the diopter is fine and works as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just What I Needed! I like to be able to use my cameras without wearing my glasses. This Nikon diopter works good, and it also fits my Fuji GW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more squinting. I no longer have to press my glasses to the viewfinder. Now I can see through the viewfinder without my glasses.
