Nikon DK-20C overview

  • 1Description

The DK-20C +2.0 Correction Eyepiece for Rectangular-Style Viewfinder from Nikon allows you to optimize your SLR/DSLR viewfinder's sharpness in conjunction with your individual eyesight. Nikon SLR/DSLR cameras (without built-in adjustable eyepiece correction) have a base diopter value of minus one. Minus one is considered the optimum starting point for the majority of SLR/DSLR users with normal vision. The combination of the camera's viewfinder components and a clear (standard) eyepiece form a virtual image of a subject on the camera's focusing screen that is the approximate equivalent of a viewing distance of one meter.

Each Nikon eyepiece diopter incorporates a numerical value, represented by a minus value (nearsighted) or a plus value (farsighted) number, enabling you to select the appropriate diopter for your vision and your camera model.

The eyepiece's diopter value is, when combined with the viewfinders minus one value, the end-result value. No combination of the camera's base value of minus one and a given accessory diopter's value is required to arrive at the final desired value. In other words, if you require a diopter of plus 3, simply add a plus 3 diopter to your camera.

    Nikon DK-20C reviews

DK-20C Correction Eyepiece for Rectangular-Style Viewfinder (+2.0) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A tough eye cup fit for my D7100s, one would think, you'd slip off the stock eye cup (DK-23), slide the DK-20C on, then slide the DK-23 onto the DK-20C. One would be wrong, at least in my case it didn't. The DK-20C slipped on okay, but the DK-23 did not slip onto the DK-20C. The fix: With the two components OFF the camera, loosen the two tiny screws on the back of the DK-23 using a jewelers Phillips screwdriver, slide the DK-23 onto the DK-20C (with a bit of muscle), then tighten the screws. Eyebrow comfort is back. I'd be interested to know if anyone had the same issue. It really should be easier. I called Nikon and there was no record of such a problem...or fix. Now they have one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Puzeling design flaw? Though I need reading glasses I can still see my camera controls/menu without them, but I rely on resolving focus in my D600 viewfinder. So the DK-20C is the ticket. It goes right on the camera where the rubber eye cup normally attaches, and looks well made with a coated lens element. But there is a problem. The outer part of the DK-20C is grooved on the left and right to receive the rubber eye cup, or so it seems. But the regular eye cup, which one removes in order to put this in it's place, would not fit. I was able to get it to fit. But I had to machine it. Using sand paper on the eye cup part to make the inner edges (which slide into the side grooves) thinner and a hack saw blade on the DK-20C to widen the receiving grooves, so the regular eye cup would fit on. It makes sense that the option to put the eye cup onto the DK-20C would be there as this is useful. The groove details in the sides of the DK-20C clearly were meant to allow this, or so it would seem. I find it rather strange that I had to go to some trouble and some might say to extremes to get the eye cup to fit on. Even without wearing glasses the rubber eye cup, really more of a pad, allows me to rest the viewfinder on my eyebrow area. So I'm glad I was able to alter the DK-20C to receive the standard eye cup, but was annoyed that it was necessary to do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The way to a perfect viewfinder My Nikon D610 came with a viewfinder that was not strong enough for me to focus on the focal plane. This +2 diopter lens fits firmly and provides perfect focus with a midrange setting. The rubber cover cannot be replaced but I do not notice its absence. In fact, with the cover gone, it is now easier to clean the back of the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon Viewfinder for Boomers OK I admit to being older and preferring to wear contacts and reading glasses. But this can really mess up my ability to focus a camera. The Nikon + 2 viewfinder allows me to use the camera direct and see the image perfectly. I know the Camera has auto focus but I want to see what I shoot! Excellent Product it just slips on the camera replacing the standard viewfinder and it just takes a few seconds to switch if I am not wearing my contacts. Dave

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon Eyepiece +2.0 Wow, this is a life changer! Now I can focus with confidence and know my picture will be tack sharp. This eyepiece provides the sharpness of glasses without the inconvenience, the only time I need glasses is to check the back screen of the camera.
