Mola Demi Overview

The Mola Demi 22" "Beauty Dish" Reflector has a unique patented design that captures and focuses light with maximum efficiency. It is shaped to intercept all paths of light, no matter which direction they leave the flash tube, and redirect them toward the subject. This is a big improvement on most square boxlights, which can only focus a portion of the light available.

Mola Euro and Demi create an even core of light surrounded by a smoothly graduated feathered edge... about a half a stop difference from the center to outer edge.
The handle combines a stand adapter and a handgrip in one which evenly distributes the weight of the reflector, balancing and stabilizing the reflector solidly over a light stand or boom.

My Anytime, Anywhere Light Modifier

I have owned various modifiers over the years, but with time I've come to have an affinity for three: parabolics, scrims, and mola's. Mola's with grids are my favorite lights to use in tight spaces, and the Demi in particular is my favorite light to bring to any occasion due to its versatile characteristics and relatively small size. Whether its just to provide even coverage for fill under a diffusion sock or very angular lighting behind a grid, the Demi packs up very nicely and lights a face even better! This makes a great soft key for close ups but can work as something more hard but very even from further back. I particularly love the Mola's with a white grid and opal disc attached, as the spread of light becomes very even across the beam, and the beam is fairly directional with a graceful feathered edge. The first and often only modifier I reach for when space constraints or wind are in consideration.

This dish is amazing. I am a high school senior portrait photographer based in flagstaff. Very efficient dish love the light out of it. When I received the dish it was missing the base screws which I purchased from a local hardware store

Beautiful light

This is one of my main modifiers that I use for beauty and it works extremely well. The light gives a nice fall off in conjunction with flags and v flats it just works flawlessly. The main issue I have with it is that it can be expensive to get all of the accessories that you need for it. I need to switch from elinchrom to profoto mount and that's an extra 120 dollars I need to sort. Other than that, beautiful!

There is just no words to describe my first look at the results using this BD on a test shoot with a model friend. Gorgeous creamy skin, beautiful highlights and contrast, and fabulous transitions. This turned out to be such a surprise!! Its everything I had hoped it would and MORE!!

packaging needs improvement

Love the dish. It is strong, sturdy and well made. The packaging, however, is shoddy, I fortunately did't get a damaged or bent dish, but I was missing a 1 of 4 clips for my opal light diffuser which I also bout at the same time. Other customers have complained about bad packaging and missing items. Some several years back. It is long over due, for Mola to address that issue.

What's the exit angle of the Demi without any extra diffusion or grid?

Hi Juan: Unlike a simple parabola the Demi is difficult to calculate a specific angle. The Demi’s undulating surface changes the angle at several points through the reflector curvature. As well flash tube styles and location make this calculation difficult. Therefore it does not have a quantifiable angle as such.

Yes, the Mola Speed Ring for Broncolor Pulso would be the appropriate adapter since the Siros monolight accept the same accessories as the Broncolor Pulso flash heads.

What is the difference between the "Original Demi ...

What is the difference between the "Original Demi Mola" and the "V2"? I actually bought a 22" Mola from B&H in 2018 but now I don't know if it's a V2 but am looking to buy a grid.

The V2 refers to the version of the grid. The original Demi grid was produced many years, but when we updated the grid we called it the V2 or version 2. The Demi is still the same amazing reflector and has not changed. The V2 grid will absolutely fit your 2018 Demi

If not a COB style using the Mola Opal glass will help spread light as well as redirect back into the dish giving it greater coverage and more even output.

I read in different places that this BD creates ...

I read in different places that this BD creates dark circles on the background when used without the diffusion sock. Anybody who owns this has any pictures that will help understand how much visible such dark circles are, if they are easily identifiable or if they also affect the lighting on person being photographed?

dark circles? It would be impossible for a beauty dish to create dark circles. It would not be able to create focused dark circles? Really not sure what they are making reference to. It can create banding on a background if the DB is to close to a background. If the flash tube is not frosted harder shadows are common. The undulations create fall off and create bands of higher contrast. Banding is more visible at lower resolutions.
