Kenko Auto Extension Tube Overview

The Auto Extension Tube Set DG for Canon EOS Lenses from Kenko contains three tubes of different lengths--12mm, 20mm, and 36mm--which can be used individually or in any combination to obtain the desired magnification. They are compatible with Canon EF and EFS lenses.

Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal minimum focusing distance. They have the effect of magnifying your subject and are useful for macro photography, allowing you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens while maintaining its original optical quality.

The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film/sensor plane. By moving the lens farther away from the film or sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus.

These Kenko Auto Extension Tubes retain auto focus capability with Canon AF lenses providing the effective aperture stays at f/5.6 or brighter.

12mm, 20mm, 36mm extension tubes work individually or in combination
Allows close-up macro photography with non-macro lens
Retains auto focus function when effective aperture stays at f/5.6 or brighter (f/8 or brighter on EOS 3, 1V & 1D cameras)

Kenko Auto Extension Tube Reviews

Nice mechanically and electrical connection is OK

I've tried the 3 tubes together just to see if they are fully functional. Have used the 36mm tube with my 200 micro-nikor and it worked well. It is, of course, difficult to work outdoors with it as the focus is necessarily extremely shallow at high magnifications and things move a bit in the wind as well as this old photographer. Still, it was needed to set aperature on my modern lenes since my old nikon extension tubes don't have electrical contacts. The build quality appears to be every bit as good as the old nikon tubes.

I bought these after having focus and exposure problems with a manual equivalent. Well worth the extra cost. Well made, durable construction.

Kenko was recommended by my photography teacher. Because it transfers all lens settings to the camera, my pictures turn out great. Just inserted the extension tube in between lens and camera and was ready to shoot!

How cool is this?! Extension tubes for much less cost than a dedicated macro lens and that allow the camera body to talk to and maintain all the functionality of the lenses you mount. Maybe you don't get sll the functionality of a dedicated macro lens b ut you certainly get enough to allow you to explore this type of photography and decide if you want to take a deep dive into it Yes, I recommend these

Amateur photographer, but....

Build quality is consistent with other reviews. They're not "premium" level, but solid and comfortable. As stated in the title, I am strictly amateur level, but learning. I used a 50mm Nikon prime lens, and struggled a bit with focus and light, but the payoff is coming. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. I would like to share a photo, but don't seem to be able to upload from my ipad where they're stored. I want to learn close up/macro photography and these seemed a neat way to begin. Overall, I'm quite happy with the purchase.

A winner!

Very well made extension tubes with contacts that allow auto exposure, etc. My Nikon 105mm macro lens doesn't wobble with 1, 2, or all 3 tubes used. Excellent product.

Solid. More than just closeup

Purchased to explore macro photography. Happy with quality and results so far. Accidentally discovered that with 100 to 400 lens, they can be used for more than just closeup. I was able to take pictures of items about 15 feet away. The focal range is really small, but images are sharp.

Just as good as my old ones

My old extension tubes were pretty banged up, so these were simply replacements. The old ones (18 years old) were rugged and reliable. These are built of the same quality and will serve my needs for years to come.

Yes, you are able to mount the combination (Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro with the Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set DG on the EF-RF adapter) onto an EOS R5 and it should function as expected.

As a Canon shooter, never tried this configuration. However, I would try using the E mount version of the extension tubes, instead of connecting it to the E mount-to-EF mount adapter. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1413119-REG/fotodiox_macro_tube_snye_macro_extension_tube_set.html

Will these work with EF-M lenses?
Asked by: Ravi
I doubt this product would work with ef-m lenses. They are designed for the Canon ef-s system. They might work with an ef-m camera and ef-s lenses, using the ef-s to ef-m adapter, but I can't think of a way that you could these extension tubes with ef-m lenses. You would have to purchase an ef-s lens and in event you will have a huge choice there. You would have to purchase the adapter as well then to be able to use the extension tubes on an ef-m camera. But no, you will not be able to use the ef-m lens.

question

I have a 50mm 1.4F prime as well as the EF-S 15-85 IS. Will I be able to use them with both lenses? Will this enable me to take only Macro photos or help close in on objects at a distance too (like a tele converter)? Thanks in advance for your help.
Asked by: Anonymous
Extension tubes are for macro photography and do not act in the same way as a teleconverter. The Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set DG for Canon EOS Lenses will work with the 50mm f/1.4 and 15-85mm lenses.
