Nikon HB-1 overview

  • 1Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit perfectly, well made I got an old Nikkor 35-135 push-pull zoom lens in a trade deal, but it did not come with a lens shade of any type. So, off to the trusty B&H website, where I found this one in a matter of seconds. It works perfectly, clicking securely to the lens. Good solution if you have this type of lens and need a hood. It's easy to add or remove filters even without removing the hood. Great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Proper hood This Nikon metal hood mounts securely onto the 35-70mm I purchased it for. What is great is that this hood does not have a depth that prevents me from adjusting a circular polarizer, as needed. Great for crowded areas, let others bump your hoods, not your lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HB-1 Lens hood saved my D80 I just replaced my original HB-1 that I'd used with my Nikon 35-70 f2.8 since 2002. I didn't think much about it when I bought it. About a year ago, I dropped my brand new D-80 with that lens and HB-1 hood on it. The hood took all of the shock, and flew off, cracked through. The lens and camera were fine. I glued the HB-1 back together and used it until just recently. It finally got too loose. So I replaced it with a new one. It's a great product, and totally worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Understated but useful I didn't think I'd find this product useful, but I have. Aside from its intended function to reduce stray light across the lens surface, this hood is wide enough that I can adjust my polarizing filter without removing the lens hood, remove and replace my lens cover, and because of the bayonet mount protect my expensive filters from edge damage. No downside for the price that I can find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lens hood for 28-85mm Nikkor f.3.5-4.5 This bayonet hood attaches to the lens in a manner that does not interfere with the ability to add a slim filter to this lens which has a wide angle 28mm setting. Accordingly, vignetting is minimized along with flare reduction. The hood reverses, as well, for stoarge, although it does add considerable width to the lens when on wishes to put the lens in a small bag.
