Nikon HR-2 Overview

  • 1Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Nikon HR-2 Reviews

HR-2 Lens Hood is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 212.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Handy Lens Hood I keep my lens hood screwed on my 50mm 1.8 Nikkor. It is helpful, in that if it is bumped by someone as I carry my camera, the hood flexes and absorbs the blow. When I don't have a need for the hood, I can push it, and it will recede out of the way and I won't need to unscrew it. While recording video with my D7000, the hood tends to get in the way unless I have it extended. I record video with AF turned off, and the hood prohibits the usage of the manual focus band on the lens. I would recommend the hood, if only for the bumper-like protection, but it also keeps light away that may cause flares in your photo while it is extended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very flexible Lens Hood. Very sturdy and quite reliable, this turned out to be just the reliable Lens Hood I've been looking for. My favorite feature is the way the lens hood folds in on it's self to make it more compact when storing it in a bag or case. Since it's made of rubber, the shape can sometime warp if stored in a cramped or crowded case/bag. But it easily reshapes it's self when folded out again and provides excellent protection and light control. It also screws on over lens filters so that putting on/taking off lens caps are easier to manage then with most traditional lens hoods. All in all, I recommend it to those whom have purchased the 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a NEAT-LOOKING lens hood! What a NEAT-LOOKING lens hood!I am very impressed with this little hood! And went outin BRIGHT mid-day DAYLIGHT as well as took severalcomparison shots directly underneath bright indoor lightingwith and without and never realized just how much GLARE thatthere is all the time that one isn't even aware of, till youhold your hand shading your eyes, which is exactly what alens hood does for your lens! Lens hoods really make a bigdifference! Secondly, it just LOOKS so COOL on my camera, that mine isgoing to stay on ALL the time! (my 50mm Prime lens ison my camera all the time anyway)This hood makes my camera look SO COOL, its never coming off!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HOW COOL IS THAT? This soft, pliable-rubber lens-hood folds and rolls-backonto itself, allowing it to be put-away when not in use, yetstill screwed onto the lens! You don't have to take itoff and reverse it like a hard-plastic or metal lens-hood. When you're not needing it, just push it back, rolling itonto itself! Then when you need it, just pull on the frontedge, and it pops right back into place. HOW COOL IS THAT? Problems Encountered: I waited 5 long months of Back-Order! None the less, definitely worth the wait. Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Hard-plastic lens hoods Items I Recommend: Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D lens

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Adequate...could be much better This lens hood does the job, but it could be better. The collapsing design is nice, but its build material (rubber) collects dust, grabs clothing (when using a BlackRapid RS-7), and isn't the easiest to pack in my LowePro Flipside or Domke. I tend to leave it off more than anything now. The 50 mm f/1.8D I got it for doesn't seem to need it so much since the element is so recessed. If Nikon made a plastic version i'd consider keeping one on for the added protection and shielding. But for now, it'll stay off the lens and stashed in the bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient Since this hood is rubber, it can be collapsed back over the lens, almost creating a protective case when not in use. The rubber is soft, so if you bump something or someone, it won't damage anything or anyone. It's worth the money, buy Nikon. Don't bother with the knock-off just to save a few bucks. Note: The factory lens cap can still be used when this hood is in place. Used on 50mm f/1.8 D-AF Lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why not? Why not get this? It's cheap, it adds protection and shading with minimal weight and size. It gives your hand something to brace against to shoot more steadily depending on how you hold the camera. I don't really like how it uses the threads to attach to the lens, but that's a general design flaw (in my opinion) of the whole system, not the hood specifically. If you don't like it... don't use it. It's worth however much this thing costs to just give it a try at least.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Should have been included with the lens I was a little skeptical with the hood being rubber but it turned out pretty nice ot fds back so you can leave it on the camera an flip it forward to use it my only complaint is that it had to be purchased separately Nikon should have included the hood with the lens as every lens should have it's hood
