Nikon PK-12 Overview

The Nikon PK-12 Auto Extension Tube provides 14mm of extension, and can be used with any Nikon SLR lenses longer than 50mm, or with a reversed 50mm lens (using a reverse adapter).

Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality.

The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted in between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film plane. By moving the lens farther away from the film or CCD sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus.

Provides perfect coupling and retains both AI aperture and meter coupling. Does not support AF operation.

Will the 14 mm AI Extension Tube (PK-12) when used with a Nikkor 105 mm get me to at least a 1:1 macro?
Asked by: Thomas T.
The NikonAF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Lens is already a macro lens with a 1x magnification. Adding the Nikon14mm AI Extension Tube PK-12 to this lens will give it an approximate magnification of 1.14x, which is greater than 1:1 life-size magnification. If you are instead referring to the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens, which has a native magnification of 0.13x, the new approximate magnification when used with the Nikon 14mm AI Extension Tube PK-12 would be 0.27x, which is below 1:1 magnification.

are any of these extension tubes compatible with cpu lenses and a D4 body?
Asked by: John S.
I have the PK-12 and PK-13 tubes, and neither has the contacts to couple the electronics of the lens to the camera. You will need to use a non-G Nikon lens or after-market manual lens to use these extensions.
