Foma 100 Classic Reviews

Fomapan 100 Classic Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Utterly amazing Once I saw how BH rated this film for 2 stops pushed and 1 stop pulled, I put it to the test. It did marvelously pushed, although at 3 stops pushed the contrast was extremely high. Due to the high degree of latitude I'd recommend this film as a general purpose film for beginner level users to advanced users. You really have to try hard to get poor results from this film. I shot a long exposure and just guessed at the time about 8 seconds and it turned out just fine. Overall, just an awesome film to use

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent medium speed film I use this film for portrait and general use. I used to develop it in D76 1+1 but after a few yrs. switched to Xtol 1+1. The Xtol/Fomapan combo is the best film/developer mix I found after about 15yrs of BW photography. It prints well on diffuser or condenser enlarger and scans well too. It has beautiful silver rich tones, great highlights & shadows. I love the grain structure. This film is also quite easy on under/over exposure or development. One thing I always make sure is that all my solutions are same temp. Also, do not squeegee, just shake& let it airdry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have a new regular Purchased to shoot with my M2, after spotty luck with Ilford Pan F+. It is just a fantastic film. The range of available tones flatters even the most mundane subject matter. It has a very fine grain (kind of like TMax, but not so clinical). I bought some others to try with it, (Efke, Forte, Agfa) and they were all nice, but the Foma really jumped out at me. I have a new regular.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent film for the price! First, a little about me: I first started shooting and developing film in 1985. I've used numerous films through the years -- mostly Kodak, Fuji, etc. I started buying Fomapan 100 a couple of years ago out of curiosity. Fast forward to today, and Fomapan 100 is one of my favorite films. I absolutely love it. It's my go to film when I want a classic, pleasing, and dramatic tonal quality. Fomapan 100 produces images with strong blacks and nicely graduated greys. Grain is present but well-controlled. The film responds well to classic developers (D-76, XTOL, HC-110 etc.) but I strongly recommend trying this film with Kodak XTOL. The combination of Fomapan 100 + XTOL produces images with amazing tonality. For people who scan film, you'll find Fomapan 100 very easy to use. The film dries completely flat and scans well. It's one of the best films I've ever used for scanning. My only advice with this film is to be careful with metering. In my experience Fomapan 100 is ideal at ISO 100, but in some conditions (like bright sunlight) you might get blown highlights -- the film doesn't seem to be very forgiving of exposure errors. In summary, this is a superb film especially considering the price. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Go To Film! Love this film! Great tonal range, low grain and scans great. More red sensitive than other films I've used. It's like using a yellow filter without actually using one. The film also develops really nice using caffenol-c!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, great clean sharp BW film! Very clean and sharp lines. Little to no grain. Scans well. Love it in my Nikon F3 for daylight and night time shooting on a tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've gotten great results with this film I use iso 100 black & white film with older rangefinders for outdoors photos. The results have been consistently excellent. I used to brag I got these images with Fomapan, as though getting great pictures from a less expensive, less well-known, Eastern European film somehow made me a better photographer. Nonsense, this film is reliably excellent and it's been years since I've bought anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Contrast B&W film This is my favorite artistic B&W film. Comparable to the discontinued Kodak Tech Pan film. Sharp images with little gray tone, stark contrast images. I prefer to develop this a little hot to boost the contrast even more. Best option for creative images.
