The Nikon HB-34 Lens Hood is primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens, plus prevent vignetting when shooting at wide angle. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

HB-34 Bayonet Lens Hood is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit I used it with my Nikon 55-200 mm vr2. I helped block out unwanted light. It would otherwise ruin my picture. It fits the lens perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon 55-200 lens hood This hood does a much better job of protecting my lens from bumps that could damage the lens, or the UV filter I used to use for lens protection. I can also carry another lens in my messenger bag knowing any contact will be plastic-to-plastic. Meanwhile, if I need to mitigate a stray light problem the hood is already in place, and available. As with all lens hoods, make sure the lens cap is fully secured to the lens barrel rim when you're finished shooting, or changing lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bayonet Hood does its job! I use the hood on very sunny days to keep the glare of the sun off the lens. One great thing about the hood is that it can be turned around when not needed and screwed back on to the lens for safe keeping, freeing up your hands in those split second moments of shooting. The one thing that then becomes a problem is it blocks my ability to manually focus the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit! Once you figure out that you have to line the figures on the hood up with the dot on the lens and rotate until snapping, the thing fits like a glove!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits the 55-200mm DX lens perfectly This lens hood should have come with the lens, but alas, such is business. Nevertheless, this lens mounts securely in the lens and is the right size to shield glare without but not ostentatious. In contrast, the Vello HB-69 Dedicated Lens Hood that I bought for the 18-55mm DX lens is quite flimsy, does not attach to the lens securely and, I regret purchasing that product. One other thing, I waited for weeks since the HB34 hood was out of stock. After I got it, I looked on the B&H site and noticed that it is once again out of stock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like the way it fits I had read other reviews on the different lens hoods that will fit my Nikkor DX AF-S 55-200mm GII VR ED lens, but decided to stick with the Nikon brand for this. The price was acceptable. It fits the lens fine. It clicks into place, whether fitting it facing forwards or backwards. It's designed to work perfectly with this lens. It was on backorder from China for many weeks. When it came in, B&H shipped it to me right away. I received it sooner than I thought I would. Thanks, B&H!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to my lens Love the bayonet. Protects the outside of the lens, deflects the light, and looks much cooler than the flat hoot that came with my telephoto. Great value too.
