Sigma 300mm f/2.8 EX DG Overview

  • 1Description

Combining reach and speed, the Pentax K-mount Sigma APO 300mm f/2.8 EX DG is a super-telephoto prime also characterized by its advanced optical and physical design. Its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture aids in isolating subjects using depth of field and also supports working in low-light conditions. Designated an apochromat, this lens uses a pair of extra-low dispersion elements to effectively eliminate color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color accuracy throughout the aperture range. A multi-layer coating has also been applied to lens elements to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and clarity.

Benefitting the optical attributes is an internal focus system, which provides quick autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override. The physical design also incorporates a fixed, rotating tripod collar for easy attachment to a tripod or monopod, and a drop-in filter slot permits working with rear 46mm filters, such as the included circular polarizer filter.

Super telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Pentax K-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 450mm equivalent focal length.
Impressively bright f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in available light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field.
Apochromatic optical design utilizes two extra-low dispersion elements to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.
Multi-layer coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Internal focusing design realizes quick autofocus performance as well as maintains the overall length of the lens during use.
Nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
A removable, rotating tripod collar offers well-balanced support for photographing atop a tripod or monopod with either vertical or horizontal shooting orientations.
Rear drop-in 46mm filters can be used and a circular polarizer filter is included for reducing reflections and increasing contrast and saturation.
Compatible with optional APO 1.4x EX DG and APO 2x EX DG teleconverters.

Sigma 300mm f/2.8 EX DG Reviews

APO 300mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens for Pentax K is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Lens This lens was purchased because I needed a long, low light lens and pentax offers nothing at this focal length with a constant f/2.8 aperature. So far I have used this lens mostly for photographing wildlife. I have to say I like everything about this lens. It's built like a tank. The lens hood is easily removable and is stored inverted on the lens. This lens uses drop in filters and a CPL is included. The whole thing comes packed in a padded nylon carrying case with a vibration spacer. Ok, it's packed nice and it looks great but how does it perform? The photos I shot with my K20D were razor sharp even at 100% crop. I was very pleasantly suprised on just how sharp this lens is. I am totally happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not what I expected... This wasn't what I expected. It's even better!!! The AF is very fast on my K10D compared to my Sigma 50-500. It's much much sharper, even with a 1.4 TC. I highly recommend this lens. The only bad things about it is the weight and the cost. Then again, this kind of lens needs a monpod, or better yet, a Berlebach wooden tripod with appropriate head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Glass I spent the weekend working with the new lens. It is fast in auto focus and I didn't miss a shot when trying to photograph snow geese! Wish I had bought the doubler for it.

Do they make a 2X Teleconverter for the Sigma 300mm f/2.8 Lens for Pentax?
Asked by: Anonymous
No. Sigma does not make their TC's in Pentax mount. But the Kenko 2X TC's will work just fine as well as retain autofocus with that lens.
