When the printer says you must replace the waste cartridge, you must! There is a chip in there that is changed when the cartridge gets full, and you can't do anything until the cartridge is replaced. The nice thing is that the same cartridge fits several Epson printers, and it has not changed in years.

How do I install this? I lost my manual and cannot find the maintenance tank.

On the 7600 and 7800 there is one tank near the rear of the printer, right side. You can see the short side of the tank flush with the body of the printer. On the 9600 and 9800 please note that there are two maintenance tanks. They are located in the same general area (rear, side) as the 7600/7800, just on both left and right sides. To replace the tanks, simply pull out the old and slide the new in. It doesn't matter if printer is on or off while doing this.

There are several YouTube videos on various head cleaning techniques that work for the 7800. To minimize clogging you should print at least 1 page twice a week. I have fixed several completely clogged print heads using the techniques in the videos. The most effective for a complete clog has been using an ammonia soaked paper towel overnight as shown in some of the videos. I am assuming you are not getting a maintenance tank full message on your screen.
