Hoya XD55UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 55mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Digital camera CCD or CMOS sensors are highly susceptible to reflections. This stray light can ruin your photographs with flare and ghosting. Hoya Digital Multi-Coating reduces any internal reflections, which means a clearer image with greater contrast.

A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to it as "cheap insurance".

As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times. Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters render your photos clearer and sharper. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct and acceptable image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting. Digital Multi-Coating takes this protection to a higher level.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

Digital Multi-Coated

Black Almite Frame
Filters feature a black matte aluminum, satin-finish almite frame, which reduces reflections
Black Rimmed Glass
These filters are equipped with black rimmed glass to reduce the chance of light reflecting off the edge
Low Profile Frame
Ultra-thin filter frames, which help to avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses, are also designed to hold a lens cap
Knurling Edge Frame
These filters are equipped with a straight knurling edge for non-slip, easy attachment and removal
UV Protected Case
Filter cases are UV protected, which further lengthens the life of filters

    Hoya XD55UV reviews

55mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from clearer than the Hoya Intro filters great on a high quality lens. Keep the intro lens kits (I own 2) for your kit lenses that get bumped around alot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Glass This filter does wonders for the sensor in my Nex 6. It is well built, thin and has a nice knurled edge for sure attachment to the lens. The color balance is very nice and lends itself to deep saturated image quality. When shooting into north light it creates a deep blue sky which rivals any polarizing filter I have ever used. It does not destroy reflected light or surfaces, but pulls them out as crisp renditions of what the eye sees. Very Very Happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price and I trust Hoya product For the first 3 weeks, I didn't have a filter on my new lens. First time I'd done that. I realized how hard it is to clean a macro lens so I looked around on BH site for a good but great price filter. I took a few pictures I couldn't see the difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very high quality Great feel. Made blue skies and colors really pop in bright sun. Just a little on the expensive side. But it is Zeiss glass and Sony's not known for cheap aceessories. Images were much nicer than my Hoya polarizer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Filter Most of my filters are B&W, decided to try a Hoya this time. Overall construction is similar to B&W, I'm hoping it's as durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just a beauty! Well built with a nice solid fit. I use these filters with old Canon FD lens on a Sony Nex 6 and the combo is just beautiful.
