Hoya XD58UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Digital camera CCD or CMOS sensors are highly susceptible to reflections. This stray light can ruin your photographs with flare and ghosting. Hoya Digital Multi-Coating reduces any internal reflections, which means a clearer image with greater contrast.

A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to it as "cheap insurance".

As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times. Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters render your photos clearer and sharper. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct and acceptable image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting. Digital Multi-Coating takes this protection to a higher level.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

    Hoya XD58UV reviews

58mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Expensive but beautiful result I tried these filters because of the multi-coating and they have been wonderful. I'm getting outstanding results. BUT, if you ever get dust on them or accidentally touch them, you'll waste alot of time having to stop everything and clean them thoroughly with solution, tissue, etc. VERY hard to clean. Great product, but the coating does require maintenance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a fantastic filter! No regrets. Don't let the cheaper filter prices fool you. You get what you pay for. This filter is so good, that after it was installed, I looked directly into it and saw only the lens. I thought the glass fell out of the bezel. Top quality!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality but hard to clean There are many filters to select from on the market, most of which I have not tried. I thought that l would trust the praise over this filter and chose it to protect my valuable lenses. So far I'm very pleased with my choice since I saved money over other more expensive brands and I've not encountered any light problems as a result of using them. It's as if they aren't there at all. What you do notice is the added confidence that your front lens is safer than without a UV filter. I did touch the (filter) glass one time and I had a very difficult time cleaning it. I've heard similar stories from other reviewers. Attempting to clean it only spread the blemish further until I gave up. I used lens solution and wipes. I order the nikon lenspen which I'm hopeful will clear up the problem. Lens filters costs seem to inflate considerably when imported from their native land. Japan is the best source to obtain Hoya filters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelent Image Quality I was afraid buying another UV filter because I had bad experiences with other brands: they protect your lenses but decrease image quality. So I decide to buy this one, for a last chance. No regrets at all! I made various tests with and without the filter and the image quality of my canon 5D is there. I will buy this pro-filter for all my other lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Really nice filter, crystal clear, very thin and well built, and the pictures looks like you don't even have it on the lens - what more can you ask for. Don't buy the cheap ones, you spend so much on a lens, buy a filter that won't reduce your image quality. Beware, you can find it cheaper on @ from HK or Korea, but there are a lot of knock-offs of Hoya filters and for the 10$ saving getting a knock-off isn't worth it, with B&H you wouldn't have to worry about authenticity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter I couldn't imagine removing the filter for any reason. This protects my lens which is the main reason for getting it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Balance of Quality and Price I put this Hoya Pro 1 Digital UV filter on my new Olympus 75-300mm zoom lens to protect the front element in the event it gets dropped. Much easier to replace a filter than repair a lens. I chose this particular filter because it uses Hoya's advanced multi coatings on optically flat glass and passes over 99% of visible light, which is important with a lens that is a stop slower than others. All of this filter goodness comes at a reasonable price. Win - win for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Filter This is one great filter with good build, multicoated. Great for protecting your camera!
