ART Tube MP Reviews

GREAT DI for Acoustic Guitar!

I recently added the Tube MP Project Series USB mic preamp between my acoustic guitar with StudioLAG preamp and the PA. Before, my guitar sounded thin and reedy and there simply was not enough output to the board to get a good guitar sound. Now, with the Tube MP in place and the +20dB button on the input engaged, there is more than enough signal. And, the tube tames the quackiness of the guitar's piezo pickup, giving me a full, round sound that I've never heard come from this guitar before. In short, the Tube MP Project Series USB is a GREAT DI for an acoustic guitar. It boosts gain without creating any discernible distortion and gives a fuller, richer, rounder sound than the guitar's preamp alone. The difference is really pretty incredible! I will never play straight into the PA again! I highly recommend this unit to anybody who plays an acoustic guitar with a built-in preamp live. It will improve the guitar's sound exponentially. The difference is really night and day! It's such an inexpensive unit, I had reservations about build quality and performance. But, the ART Tube MP turned out to be better than I ever could have hoped for -- It did everything I wanted and then some! The box is strong and appears to be well-made and it does its job better than you'd ever expect, especially at such a low price. The ART Tube MP Project Series USB is a terrific value! For live acoustic performers, it's a Godsend!

Pre amp crackles and pops over voice with heavy latency. Develops issues with software.

used with a piezo pickup on an accoustic to provide input to computer to drive learning software and personal recording. The pickup level is quite low but this amp has sufficient gain to drive the output to limit. Soft limiter provides a compressed dynamic range for recording. There is a mix of input and output gain but the process for determining how to use them is a bit opaque. Some trial and error was involved in finding the correct configuration. A small expanatory diagram of the amp would be helpful. I suspect that used for it's intended purpose the setup would be smoother. When configured well the amp produces a warm coloration. USB setup is simple.

Flawless mac interface (garageband reads as audio codec). Nice, warm sound for vocals and guitar. I use it for home recording and have found the plug and play aspect to be easy to use and yet still professional sounding.

perfect for our needs

Small, portable amp- works great. We use it to enable us to connect a really nice mic to a pc/laptop for video conferencing. It really helps improve the audio capture of the whole room. So much better than usb microphones, and much less expensive than pro audio equipment.

Works well for me

I got this guy for VO recordings on corporate gigs. So far worth every cent. It does its job well and provides me with a pre amp and phantom power for some of my mics. Sound is great with my Studio B1 mic. If I had to pick on it I would say a battery option so you could go portable. However I believe there are other types of preamps that are intended for that.

Very good.

May have to buy another. Using it for guitar and bass. Adds warmth and lets me saturate the tube for some sweet distortion. Very quiet and well built. You cannot go wrong for the price!
