The Formatt 86mm Hi Def Clear Glass Filter is a clear (colorless) filter for color as well as black and white films. Also serves as a permanent lens protector.

Hi Def Filters

Hi Def filters do not experience color shift - Specifically designed for use with High Definition filming
Optically consistant from filter to filter
Formatt filters use the finest materials together with state of the art production techniques; This has resulted in a standard of optical perfection unmatched anywhere else
All Formatt filters are manufactured using Schott-Desag B270 Crown Optical Glass that is precision polished and ground to ensure absolute optical flatness and optimum performance

Absorbing Cell Technology

The secret to Formatt's consistency in filter design lies in its unique "Absorbing Cell Technology" (A.C.T.); This unique process allows color correct dyes to be applied to optically pure, wafer thin absorbing cells and offers a controllability that ensures the smoothest grad lines and consistent color across the whole filter surface.
This process is revolutionary compared with conventional filter dying techniques by eliminating the need to directly coat the glass surface itself; The repeatable performance gained through A.C.T. ensures that at any time you have to swap like filters for like filters mid shoot you can do so with confidence with no discernable differences in color or density.
Each filter is guaranteed flatness to a maximum 2-wave value and comes with an individual reading from a laser interferometer; Every filter is carefully verified with a densitometer and spectrophotometer to ensure consistent and accurate transmission, before leaving the factory - the result is an absolute purity of image that eliminates any unwanted colorcast caused by conventional greenish soda-lime glass.

Ultraviolet Filters

If desired they can be left on the lens at all times for protection
Haze filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
Ultraviolet filters allow you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Formatt 86mm UV-Haze HD Filter. Purchased to be used on the front objective lens of a Meopta S2 82mm spotting scope. The threads on the filter were not deep enough or long enough to engage the threads on the retaining ring of MeOpta's spotting scope's objective lens. So the filter was sent back. On very close inspection of MeOpta's S2 objective lens retaining ring it was found not to be threaded to it's very end, and also setback in rather deeply. So NO filter could be screwed into/onto it. I always use UV-Haze filters on all my spotting scopes. Which seems to be becoming the norm now a days with knowledgeable Birder's to not only cut down on the ever present haze. But, also to protect the front objective lens from dust & debris, and possibly scratching it from improper or carelessly cleaning it. Also to protect the objective lens from impact and possible breakage. It's much-much cheaper to replace a broken or damaged UV-Haze filter then to replace a front objective lens! Meopta was informed of the problem, and need to replace the present retaining ring with one threaded all the way to the end so that a UV-Haze filter can be threaded onto it. They stated that the suggestion would be taken under advisement; and that probably sometime in the near future a newer designed retaining ring might be fitted on S2 spotting scopes? I personally would like to see this as the S2 Meopta spotting scope I tested was an excellent spotting scope that compares very favorably against the big three brands. And at a very-very reasonable price! And this Formatt UV-Haze HD filter appeared to be of very high quality. And should be an excellent choice for any lens needing an 86mm sized UV-Haze filter. And the price was very reasonable for the quality and size of this rather large filter.
