Schneider 68-041244 overview

  • 1Description

The Schneider Neutral Density (ND) 1.2 Filter (4 x 4") has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film.

Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Speaking generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6) effectively compensates average situations.

Note: Neutral Density Filters are available in grades 1,2,3 and 4 stops to suit individual needs

Neutral Density Filters Have Four Main Uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure
High-Quality Construction
Schneider filters feature crystal clear, water-white optical glass, protected against edge-chipping and delamination by Schneider's unique Edge Seal, which also significantly reduces edge reflections and flare

Schneider Quality Control

Schneider filters are ground and polished to a precise flatness and plane parallelism
Because all Schneider filters are designed and manufactured with the highest possible degree of consistency, you can swap like filters mid-shoot with no discernible variation in color or effect

Neutral Density Factors

ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop, reduces ISO 1/2)
ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)
ND 1.2 (exposure adjustment = 4 stops, reduces ISO 1/16)

    Schneider 68-041244 reviews

    Neutral Density (ND) 1.2 Filter (4 x 4") is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Horrible color shift in some situations. I was shooting video of tennis pros for Wilson sports commercial on some striking beautiful blue and green clay courts in Palm Springs. The client was very excited about the court color and how that pallet would contrast the player's wardrobe. Good enough. Working in the blazing desert sun you can barely get an exposure with the lens closed all the way down so I excitedly pulled out my new ND 1.2 and popped it in, and wham! I could not believe my eyes, the green court was now a muddy kind of red oxide. * There was a mild color shift in the rest of the image, skin tones, etc, stuff that could be white balanced or timed out within reason. After fiddling around, fretting and color balancing like an idiot in front of the Client and talent I had to surrender to the fact there was no way to recover from this color shift. Bummer. I did a ton of research prior to purchase because of the known color shifting issues and settled on the Schneider because of reputation. After doing more research the best I can find is to give the Schneider MPTV Platinum IRND filters a go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for use with Sony NEX-FS100 The Schneider Neutral Density (ND) 1.2 Filter is perfect for use on the Sony NEX-FS100 as the camera doesn't have a built in ND wheel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Color Shift This, like all the Schneider filters I bought, shifted the colors so significantly to red/pink that I sent it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Good quality, easy to clean. It affects the color but this can be fixed in PS. One of the best filters I used.
