Schneider
Schneider Neutral Density (ND) 0.3 Filter (4 x 5.65")
Key Features
  • Water White Glass
The Schneider Neutral Density (ND) 0.3 Filter (4 x 5.65") has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film.

Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters. Speaking generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6) effectively compensates average situations.

Note:
Neutral Density Filters are available in grades 1,2,3 and 4 stops to suit individual needs

Neutral Density Filters Have Four Main Uses

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations
To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

High-Quality Construction

Schneider filters feature crystal clear, water-white optical glass, protected against edge-chipping and delamination by Schneider's unique Edge Seal, which also significantly reduces edge reflections and flare

Schneider Quality Control

Schneider filters are ground and polished to a precise flatness and plane parallelism
Because all Schneider filters are designed and manufactured with the highest possible degree of consistency, you can swap like filters mid-shoot with no discernible variation in color or effect

Neutral Density Factors

ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops, reduces ISO 1/4)
ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops, reduces ISO 1/8)

Solid for the money

I'm using this with an conner o-box and redrock micromattbox, and it's been a solid ND filter for the money. The cases it comes with are typical quality. Nothing to write home about, but solid nonetheless. Overall, I would recommend this to someone on a budget. It doesn't cause problems, unlike some of the cheaper glass I've used (no distortion, clean image). If you're not going to drop thousands on light augmentation for that last few percent, Schneider does the job and looks great. I've been working successfully with this glass on the 5dmii, 5dmiii, and fs100 using the aforementioned matte boxes, and I'm a satisfied customer. I'm using this for video exclusively (and have the gradient glass as well, similar feelings). I have no experience using it for photography. I hope the review is helpful.

This filter is high quality. I don't notice any softness introduced by it. Does what it's supposed to do which is to block out light and it does it well.
