Helping to balance exposures within a scene, this 6.6 x 6.6" MPTV Graduated Neutral Density 1.2 Filter from Schneider is ideally suited for situations involving both bright and dark areas, such as an open sky and shadowed foreground. Half of the filter is clear and the other half has 1.2 neutral density, with a soft-edged transition between the two that is ideally suited for use with medium and wide-angle lenses. By reducing the exposure in selective areas, you are able to balance the overall exposure of the scene in order to gain detail in both bright and dark areas.

This filter is designed to maintain a true and neutral color balance, and it has been constructed from precision ground and polished water-white optical glass for a high degree of clarity and contrast. It measures 6.6 x 6.6" / 167.6 x 167.6 mm and is intended for use in matte boxes.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from I miss the lighter plastic filters but these are good Heavier and thicker than the plastic brands but I am hoping they are more resistant to scratching. The advantage to the plastic ones is there's no way they're going to break if you drop them. I find carrying the .6 and 1.2 softies is a good kit to start with and always carry them. I also own the .6 and 1.2 hard edged but don't feel enough of a need for them to carry them around all the time. I actually kind of think having two each of the softies that I can change around would be more useful than the hard edged. When you have a bright sky and a bright lawn one isn't enough when you want to emphasize the subject matter in the middle without being obvious and obnoxious about it. I like the 6.6 inch because I can plant my greasy fingers on the corners without worrying about messing up the image.
