The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base is a gimbal-type tripod head that incorporates an elevated tilt mechanism and adjustable platform to make the camera/lens' center of gravity and tilt axis of the head be perfectly aligned.
Hi, everyone!First of all, sorry for my english.Last year, I made the acquisition of a Sigma 120-300 Sport lens and I've been using it until now with a Davis & Sanford Carbonlite Transporter tripod and its FZ10 head. The thing is the FZ10 head doesn't seem to be the best head for such a heavy lens.I actually experienced its limits just last sunday to monday night, during the moon eclipse. So I've been searching the web a little bit since yesterday and it appears the Wimberley gimbal head could be a perfect choice.I consider to add a Wimberley QR plate to it but I have not determined yet which one between P40 and P50.My question is: does anyone know if the Wimberley gimbal head will be compatible with my actual D&S tripod (instead of the FZ10 head)? Thanks alot for your forthcoming help.
At 7.5 pounds, the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 lens is quite heavy. I certainly agree that the FZ10 pan head supplied with your D & S Carbonlite Transporter tripod is not the best choice for such a heavy lens and camera combination. I have used the Wimberley WH-200 gimbal head for nearly two years with a Sony 500mm f/4 lens that weighs 9 pounds with lens hood and quick release plate attached. You will be very pleased with the Wimberley head. The P-40 quick release plate is recommended for your lens however I am using the P-50 plate which is a little longer and provides more room for adjustment to balance the system when using a tele-converter, flash bracket or a different camera body. Either plate should work with your lens.I am not familiar with the D & S tripods but was able to find your tripod on the web. Reviews that I read indicate that it is a very sturdy tripod so it should be more than adequate for your new lens. The FZ10 head is rated to handle a 12 pound load. Im sure the tripod will handle that and more. The only thing you need to check is the head attachment. If the FZ10 head will screw off your tripod, the Wimberley gimbal head will screw on. The Wimberley head requires a 3/8 inch screw. If your tripod has a inch screw, the Wimberley head can still be attached with a to 3/8 adapter.

Any way to attach a handle to use it as a video head like Gitzo Gimbal fluid head?
Unfortunately, you can not attach a Pan Bar to a Gimbal Head. We will recommend using Fluid head for Video recording.

Which tripod (cost is NOT a factor) would you reccomend for this Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal tripod head? I will be mounting a Nikkor 400mm, f2.8 or a Nikkor 600mm, f 4 lens (both of which I recently purchased from B&H) with a Nikon D4 body onto the rig. I need a compatible tripod that will allow me to just drop the Wimberley head directly into the top of the tripod and tighten it down without any additional adaptors or anything else. I'm just not sure which tripod (legs) are compatible with this head. Can you give me a recommendation or recommendations ? Thanks so much for your assistance. You guys at B&H are the BEST!
I use this head on a Gitzo GT5543XLS as well as a Manfrotto 058 and both are workhorse tripods that come without a head of their own. People want light tripods (the Gitzo GT5543XLS) is light despite its giant capabilities and the Manfrotto is one of the heaviest tripods made - people will tell you it is a studio tripod, which it is, but I have taken this sucker to China for magazine work and it never let me down (I wasnât carrying it on my back either). The Wimberley head is heavy and it needs a solid tripod under it for it to perform at its best.

Is the Wimberley WH-200 II smoother panning than the Benro GH2?
The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base does have smoother panning than the Benro GH2 Aluminum Gimbal Head.

If I am using a Nikon D7200 and a Sigma ...
If I am using a Nikon D7200 and a Sigma 150-600mm, will I need to purchase anything special in order to use this??? Thank you
I shoot Canon, but the principles are the same regardless of your lens. The Wimberly gimbal comes with an Arca-Swiss style clamp made by Wimberly. The clamp is used to hold a specially designed "plate" that mates with the clamp (gets clamped by the clamp). There are multiple manufacturers of clamps and plates, but as long as they are Arca-Swiss style they should fit. You'll want a plate to fit on your Sigma 150-600 tripod foot unless it aleady has one. However there are multiple lengths of plates, so you'll need to research Sigma or Wimberly or someone to determine what size plate is best for your 150-600. Do a Google search for "lens plate for Sigma 150-600" or similar for more info. I don't know if the Contemporary and Sports lenses would use different plates. Good luck.

What does it mean when it says that the gimbal has a quick release base?
If you are talking about where the camera attaches to the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base, it works just like your quick release on your tripod.

Hi, I am looking at purchasing the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal for use with a Really Right Stuff tripod - and I am wondering if there is a tripod bag that would work to transport the tripod with the head attatched?
I have a Benro tripod with a Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal. The answer from Lenny looks like a great possibility. Depending on how long your tripod is, this one is very similar and may work - Manfrotto MBAG90PN Padded Tripod Bag. But, since you have a RRS tripod, I'd go for the RRS bag!
