    AKG K 81 DJ reviews

    K 81 DJ - DJ Headphones is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent DJ Headphone For this price range, these headphones are great. They are designed though for more dance/electronic type music with an emphasis on bass. It has very strong and solid sounding bass, but only decent treble. But I think they still are good enough and work great. If you're looking for a relatively low price set of headphones, these are great regardless. The sound overall on these headphones for this price range for any music is still great but definitely a must if you're looking for headphones under 100 for bass heavy music. They fold so they are also very portable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product,! I use the headphones to listen to house and trance music while I'm at home and when I'm walking around. The sound quality is excellent but a bit bass heavy when used on an ipod. Build quality is good, they feel solid. One downfall I've encountered is they tend to heat up after a few minutes of use. It actually makes them great for walking around during winter as the heat is nice. Another con is that they are a tight fit and hurt my ears after a while. Overall, they are excellent headphones for the price

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very enjoyable headphones all in all At the current street price the K81Dj provide an incredible combination of portability, durability, and isolation. They perform respectably in the sq area as well, providing a rich midrange, very strong bass, and accurate treble.A great set of phones that works extremely well at its price point (and makes me want to try the higher-end K181DJ).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Product The band might not fit everyone, and it took some getting used to but I'm starting to really appreciate the fit. The sound isolation is excellent though, I haven't heard a closed back pair that sounds better. Other than that, this is a quality set of headphones, I would definitely recommend them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted Ok, so first lemme tell you where I am coming from. I am a college student that has always loved music but has recently gotten into djing. I love house/techno/trance, club mixes, basically anything with a good beat. I bought myself an inexpensive beginner dj mixer with software but needed arguably the most important equipment, headphones. I wanted something with a good reputation, sturdy build, great sound, portable and not too expensive because I am just starting out and didn't want to break the bank on my first pair. I did tons and tons of research, looking at tons of blogs and dj website reviews and one name kept popping up as a great bang for your buck, AKG k81 dj. I love a good bass and everything I read said these are the headphones for that, maybe even a little bass heavy. Also, as superficial as it sounds I wanted a pair of headphones that would look good. I'm new to the big over the ear headphones, having ususally just used ipod earbuds, so I wanted something that wasn't too bulky and would make me look like I have a smaller head than I already do. These headphones were the perfect size. They are big enough to cover the whole ear, but not huge enough to be annoying. (note they don't surround the ear but rest on them). I read alot of reviews for these and most people said they were a little small/tight/made for people with small heads so I knew these were the one for me. Ok, so I did my research found what I wanted and got the headphones. I have now had these headphones for about two weeks and they are exactly what I was expecting. The sound is GREAT. Bass is fantastic, mids are great, treble is a little sharp and edgy but not noticibly so. The clarity is great and whether a good thing or a bad thing I can tell when I am listening to a song with poorer download quality. The headphones deliver exactly the sound you have, so if you have some cheap downloads you will notice the quality of that (not the quality of the headphone audio). As people had noted, they are a little small and tight and for the first few days wearing them my ears hurt after about an hour or so of listening, but as they have stretched out a bit they have become much more comfortable and I assume they will continue to do so. In terms of build, they are plastic with a metal headband and feel very durable. One of my hesitations about them was that the piece that extends the length of the earcups is made of plastic but it seems to be some sort of fiberous plastic alloy that is really sturdy. I am not too worried about breaking these bad boys unless I toss them around rougher than I should. The earcups swivel around 360 degrees which make whatever style you use for mixing perfectly accessible. They also fold up for easy storage in the pleather case that is included with the headphones. The one minor complaint I have about the build is that the wires come out of both headphones rather than just one and don't plug in or out. The wires kinda get in the way a bit when mixing and moving around alot and sometimes I worry about pulling the wire out of the earcups, but what can you expect for such a low price. Ok, so overall these headphones are great. They were a perfect buy for me. Good build, great sound with awesome bass, sturdy, portable and comfortable (after awhile), and great looking. Sure they have their minor drawbacks but who can complain at the price. I would highly recommend these headphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for the price! I had been looking for a new set of cans for quite some time. Typically I tend to over-research a topic to death and arrive on one or two final solutions. This time I took a slightly different route. I consider myself an audiophile and love to pay attention to the clarity and little nuances in music. My last set of headphones (of this type) were Skullcandy Skullcrushers. Great for bass, and that's about it. Don't judge, it was an impulse purchase :P I asked a friend who is a *huge* headphone junkie if he could provide a recommendation. He asked the type of music I listen to (hip hop, rap, techno, classic rock, acoustic) as well as whether these would be for home or mobile use. He instantly recommended the AKG K 81. Didn't even think twice. I told him my budget was $100 and he said 'save the money you'll be more than happy.' A year ago, 90% of my use would be mobile. Today, it's more like 50/50. I have used these with my laptop, record player, mp3 player, and cell phone. Mobile devices such as iPod and cell phone would benefit from a portable headphone amp (maybe 20-30$) as the sound output level is lower than compared to my laptop and record player. However, at no sound level do these headphones sound distorted. I've played many types of audio via my laptop (highly encoded mp3 and FLAC) and they sound wonderful at any volume. The build quality is excellent. These headphones have a long cord, and are quite comfortable, over short periods of time. If you wear them for longer than a couple hours, they do start to make the ears feel a little 'tired'. This type of headphone is 'on ear' rather than 'over ear'. The nice thing is, there is almost no sound leak. Your neighbors wont be bothered. The headband is metal but has some give so you can flex them to more of an 'egg shape' and the headphones fit much more comfortably. The cord is long, but not the highest quality, so I could see it wearing out over time (most likely in excess of a couple *years* so not to worry. I was going to give these headphones a 4/5 (because I'm harsh and find it hard to give any product 5/5) but I can't really bring myself to do so. The audio quality is excellent, better than many that I've tried (including They are comfortable, have a long cord, and I got these for $. Worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Price, excellent headphones They are whats promised and more. Very well made for the price. Excellent bass seperation (not boomy) and decent highs. As a DJ you want a durable product with decent cord length, and the K 81 DJ's are just that product. I imagine you would have to spend at least $100 dollars to get in the ball park of something that sounds so good and well made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good for the price These were included as part of a bundle with some fairly pricey PA speakers, so I did not select them at all. When they arrived and I pulled them out of the package, they were so lightweight and small that I figured they were junk that could be tossed into a bundle as a freebie. As others have noted, they're not over-ear; they're on-ear, but I was shocked by how stellar the isolation from ambient noise is. They create a very good seal that blocks outside noise, while the sound quality itself is bass-heavy, but very respectable overall--far better than I expected. These are sold as DJ headphones, but they're also a bargain alternative to, say, Bose noise canceling headphones that cost several times the price. The actual sound quality is on par with the Bose models, and the passive noise isolation makes these great for wearing on planes, trains, or in other loud-ish constant noise environments. The smaller size (as compared to something over-ear like my Sennheiser HD280 Pro cans) is much better for travel or for stuffing into a video gear bag for field monitoring. The cord is extra-long which is good for most folks. The only negatives are that these don't fold as flat as some others, and the cables come from each ear and are not detachable. I would never have thought to select these, but now that I have them, I'm pleased to recommend them as an excellent value for anyone needing good audio quality with noise isolation and a small-ish form factor.
