Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a softbox.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

This size is perfect for a 3 person full length shot, or a 4x8 size still-life setup.

Fabrics are color balanced to all Photoflex soft boxes, panels and discs.
Black backing is removeable, for a different lighting technique.

Convertible Umbrella-60" is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 101.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great and Sturdy Umbrellas I used two of these for a wedding shoot recently, and they were amazing! They are really huge and somewhat heavy though, so I wouldn't recommend using them in small spaces. They also require sandbags to keep from falling over (that's probably true of any umbrella over 40 though). The shaft also got really scratched when using two different types of umbrella brackets. But, the umbrella, itself, holds together really well. I decided to purchase these instead of the Wescott 60-inch umbrellas, because these had way better reviews, and I'm very happy I went with Photoflex. If you're looking for some 60 umbrellas, I would definitely recommend this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality This umbrella has sturdy construction and offers the flexibility of using it as a shoot through. I'm using a pair of SB700 speedlights with this umbrella and they offer plenty of power for family portraits. Although it says the lining is white, the reflective coating on the inside looks pretty silver to me and produces more specularity than I was hoping for when used with the black backing, but that may be a plus in some situations. Used as shoot through seems to produce softer results. This has been true of the 45 versions as well. You may want a heftier umbrella bracket with this vs. the 45. Treated nicely, this umbrella should last a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value but room for improvement In standard umbrella configuration the light quality is very nicely diffused and at 60 it's a great, large light source. In shoot through configuration, the light has nearly a soft-box quality. In both cases, it is large enough to serve as key or fill light for full length portraits of couples. Surprising lightweight for the size due to fiberglass rods making it possible to hang on a medium height stand with a small mono light without feeling you need a sandbag to keep it from falling over. Easy to remove the black cover for converting to shoot through. The construction appears to be on par with other brands I own though it lacks any kind of strap to keep the umbrella well packed when folded down. This would be fine except that the plastic cover isn't durable enough to stand up to repeated use and travel. Overall, a very inexpensive way to get a large light source with this kind of flexible diffusion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True Professional Quality 60 I use this with a 500 Watt Dynalite Power Pack system to light Bands in a small venue. 5-8 people on a 30 foot wide stage, about 15 foot deep. The Size of the umbrella really helped spread the Main much more evenly than my 42 umbrellas could ever dream of. Shooting at ISO 400, I only ran about 125 watt seconds power! The 2 most outstanding qualities of the Photoflex 60 Convertible Umbrella are it's efficiency; and it's durability, due to the fiberglass supports. Quicker setup than a Soft-box of course. The price made it an easy risk to take, and paid off well! The only thing I did not like, was the center post could be thicker and stiffer, but that would probably be over kill really. I highly recommend this product and this brand. I'm buying another!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Price and Functionality I purchased this along with the 45 version for a family Easter photo shoot. I was not sure what size to get, so I got both. I knew I would have some group shots to take, so I wanted to make sure I had sufficient light coverage. The 60 did the trick. I have only used in the bounce setup, but it has worked well, especially teamed up with the 45 model. I use this with my Canon 580EXII speedlight with much success. It seems to be sufficiently well made for price and should last until I need to upgrade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap and great product This is a great umbrella for diffused lighting / strobist type application. Quality is great and detachable black cover. Price is right, it's cheap to replace. Use it for indoor/outdoor portrait session is perfect. Work well together with shoe mount bracket, lightstand and speedlite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in calm weather, super soft light I use the umbrella for portrait photography mostly outside. I may use it indoors in the future but Hawaii so scenic I find myself outside almost all the time.It is well madeeasy to storeeasy to transport (easier then even my 24 Lastolite Soft Box which folds up very small)gives very soft and even lightBut it isn't made for high winds is bulky and a little challenging to point down because it is so largecan be blown over from a gust if you're not carefulYou will like it if you use umbrellas for portraits in calm/controlled areas. Here are a few example images if you would like to see it in action -

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just any Umbrella I got two of these monsters and I mean MONSTERS, 60 is a big umbrella. I have owned several different umbrellas from several different manufactures. The thing I really like about these umbrellas are their ribs, they are made of fiber glass. I have broken westcott, bronchiolar, cowboy studio was poor, and impact. None are truly indestructible, but these are really durable. these can survive a 7 foot tip and not break a rib.
