Impact VSD300 overview

  • 1Description

This is the Impact Two Monolight Kit without Case (120VAC). The VSD300 has cushioned touch-pad function control buttons. Power is adjustable in 1/10 stop increments, from full to 1/8 power. Its model light intensity may be controlled coupled to, or independent from the strobe power levels you select. This kit provides ample power to light a three-four person full-length portrait.

The Impact VSD300 is a good unit for occasional use by a hobbyist, or beginning professional. It is a good choice for building a system - its built-in optical slave fires the flash without wires, from the light of any other flash system. Its flashtube is good for tens of thousands of pops, and is replaceable.

This two monolight kit includes air cushioned light stands, 45" white translucent umbrellas, and a sync cord (Mini plug to PC).

  • 2 x Impact Digital Monolight 300Ws

The Impact Digital Monolight 300Ws as part of the VSD Series of monolights is proof that a 300 watt-second monolight does not need to be expensive. The VSD300 provides enough stored power to easily light a portrait or small still-life setup. It has features found on monolights that cost twice as much.

This monolight has a digital readout coupled with its four-stop power variator. It accepts S-type monolight reflectors and head accessories. The VSD300 has cushioned touch-pad function control buttons. Power is adjustable in 1/10 stop increments, from full to 1/8 power. Its modeling light intensity may be controlled coupled to, or independent from, the strobe power levels you select.

The VSD300 is available as part of several complete lighting kits. A slightly more powerful version of this light is the VSD400.

This monolight has a limited auto-dump feature, which automatically fires the strobe when you reset to a lower power level.
Built-in optical slave sees the light from other flashes, and fires this monolight automatically.
A Sync cord with miniplug to PC connection is included.
Its recycle beep tone may be switched on or off.

  • 2 x Impact White Translucent Umbrella (43")

Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a lightbox.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

This Impact 43" White Translucent Umbrella is suggested for use in mid-length portraits for one or two persons.

  • 2 x Impact Air-Cushioned Light Stand (Black, 8')

This aluminum Impact Air-Cushioned Light Stand rises to a height of 8' and folds down to 29.6". The stand has sure-twist section locks and 4 sections and will support up to 8 lb.

If you forget to tighten any section with your light mounted, the light slowly descends, thanks to the air-cushioned action. This useful feature saves equipment and fingers from harm during busy photo sessions.

Impact VSD300 reviews

Two Monolight Kit without Case (120VAC) is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't Bother. I had these lights for almost 30 days. At first one of the sync ports when dead with in the first shoot I did with them. RMA'd no problem with BnH CS. Before I could send out the first light for repair the second sync port went out during a paid shoot. I was very upset because I had to refund the customer's money. I think the 1/8th inch jack is the flaw of the these lights. I think a 1/4 inch jack would be more reliable. They were good lights when they worked. These are great for photographers starting out with strobes. Plenty of power for a small studio. The only thing that worked well and I would probably buy in the future are the stands.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GREAT STROBES!! So I bought these strobe lights last week and I absolutely love them. They give a fantastic power output even on its lowest setting, I had to use aperture settings of F11 or so for some pictures at 100th of a second. These are amazing for portrait use because you have 2 with built in slave modes. And the color temp is very consistent and with the umbrella's provides a very soft light. I would highly recommend that you buy some sort of pocket wizard set up. It comes in handy because you have less cords running around. And extension cords. Highly recommend extension cords. There are a few cons though. The beep that comes out from when you change the power settings is annoying after some time and you cannot change that. The light stands that it comes with do move a lot when brought to heights (which is expected) but id recommend some sand bags to hold it down especially if you use it outside like I did. I almost dropped my strobe light after a day of use because the wind blew it over. The other issue I faced was when I used this outdoors the slave mode didnt work with the strobes, so if you want to use it outside get 2 receivers (Powersync 16 works AMAZING!) that way you have guaranteed communication between strobes. Thats really the only reason I gave it a 4.
