The Lasersoft SilverFast HDR Scan/Image Optimization Software is high-end scanning and imaging software that combines a very intuitive user interface with sophisticated and professional control. It is designed to optimize image processing, allowing multi-user scans and color management; thus increasing productivity and ensuring high quality. Beginners and professionals will appreciate the unique real-time controls and the intelligent automatic functions as well as the possibility to manually adjust the image at any point.
Many of today's scanners allow the ability to write the full dynamic range of its hardware into TIFF-data. This makes the reduction to 24 bit RGB obsolete. The ability to save these 'raw' files opens up new workflow opportunities, allowing images to be scanned and archived into digital format, and then opened at a later date without any loss quality. In order to save such data with extended dynamic range, SilverFast Ai HDR 6 saves the file in 48 bit TIFF format. Scanners with only 30 or 36 bit capability supply into this format their maximum output. Regardless of the effective dynamic range supplied, the file will always become a 48 bit file. For comparison, normal scan software saves images into a 24 bit file, discarding the extra information supplied from the scanner. 48 bit files retain all of the information supplied. This result is in SilverFast being able to provide 48 bit full color-corrected output (RGB and LAB in 48 bits, CMYK in 64 bits).
Since SilverFast HDR never drives the scanner directly, it can be used with raw data files produced from scanners that SilverFast doesn't normally support. Simply scan the file with no correction using the original scan software, and then pass the resulting TIFF file to HDR. Now you will have all of SilverFast's tools at your disposal: Defining output size, Auto-Adjust, Histogram, Gradation curves, Selective Color Correction, Unscharp Masking, Color Separation, CMYK-Preview.... etc. In addition, SilverFast HDR can still be used with Adobe Photoshop, or with a TWAIN compliant application; and, SilverFast HDR 6 now includes the JobManager which adds unprecedented productivity to SilverFast HDR.
SilverFast can be operated by its own as a Stand-Alone application in addition to the Photoshop and Twain Plug-in operation. The advantage of the "SF Launcher" is the small memory requirement (only 2-4 MB) and the significantly faster loading of the application. SilverFast's Stand-Alone application "SF Launcher" brings total independence to SilverFast. Working under Mac and PC, the user does not need any other application to work in conjunction with any SilverFast version
VLT - Virtual Light Table
With the Virtual Light Table, texts from the meta tags of the IPTC or EXIF lists may be selected and added above, beside or next to the image. The print menu in the VLT contains not only the possibility to print contact sheets of Albums or printing an overview, but also includes the "advanced printing dialog" for printing out a selection of images from an Album or from the overview. The images can be scaled, rotated or cropped. The images can be positioned automatically or manually on the print sheet, which allows an optimized positioning to save paper and costs. Additionally, ICC profiles and rendering intents can be individually selected in the extended print dialog.
SRD - Smart Removal of Defects (Dust and Scratch Removal)
It has software-based dust and scratch removal using unique normal and expert user controls that allow you to adjust the user interface to different requirements. A real-time window selection helps to quickly find the optimum settings for the SRD controls. SilverFast's dust and scratch removal has been integrated into the actual scan software workflow and can be used during the scan process.
SCC - Selective Color Correction with Multi-Layers and Multi-Masking
The Selective Color Correction has up to four layers where each layer can have its own independent color correction with masking. 4 objects of the same color can now all become different colors. This will enable you to achieve complex color corrections very easily.
ACR - Adaptive Color Restoration
Adaptive Color Restoration nicely brings back the faded out colors or weak colors with an automatic function. The function's strength can be controlled with a slider. Also too much saturation can be normalized or decreased.
SC2G - Selective Color to Grey
Selective Color to Grey is a unique feature to enable the controlled conversion from colors to grey. This direct control of the primary and secondary colors conversion into shades of grey gives publishers the ability to clearly distinguish adjacent shades of grey. SC2G can maintain the grey shade differentiation by controlling the conversion process. For all six colors: Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, the user can control into what shade of grey the color will be converted. Since the whole process is interactively monitoring the final grey image, the user quickly achieves the desired result.
GANE - Grain and Noise Elimination
The reduction of grain and noise can be controlled in a "before and after preview" with respect to the final image. This substantially reduces artifacts from noise or film grain.
MidPip 4 - Advanced Color Cast Removal
Color casts resulting from mixed light conditions can now comfortably be eliminated. Up to 4 neutral points can be set, and by means of a special dialog neutral density values can be edited. This way very subtle cast corrections can be achieved.
HiRePP - High Resolution Picture Performance
HiRePP inside SilverFast brings extraordinary productivity to processing large high resolution images. The processing time of multiple large image data files add up with Photoshop or other imaging applications. With SilverFast and its unique Preview concept processing takes place in real-time. The final processing of all corrections merely takes up a fraction of the overall processing steps and can be run automatically using the SilverFast JobManager.
IT8 Target Calibration
SilverFast has optional IT8 calibration which allows the user to generate ICC color profiles on any scanner supported by SilverFast. Using this feature, you can calibrate your scanner using a standard color target which LaserSoft Imaging supplies to you. SilverFast will not only generate a profile, it will also generate its own internal calibration based on the target. This allows enhanced color accuracy on any scanner!
Adjust and process any negative for optimum results with ability to create your own negative profiles (120+ profiles already contained).
SilverFat provides the ability to display up to 4 densitometers - allowing 4 unique measurements of the image to be displayed simultaneously.
This is a wonderful time saving utility that allows the user to have a Job Overview of all of the images being worked on. This way, a batch scan-process can be achieved, saving the user a lot of time and erroneous repetitive labor that should be done by a computer. This function can even be used with SilverFast HDR, which allows the user to enhance and/or change image parameters (dpi, color model, etc.) on files that are already in the hard drive. Thanks to HDR, a scanner isn't required, therefore you can use images that were previously scanned or from the web, etc. Job Manager is now included as a standard feature in SilverFast version 6.
Real Time Processing
With SilverFast, all image manipulations such as gradation, global and selective color corrections are applied by a slider control. This control updates the image in real time as the user drags the mouse. This is of particular advantage in color processing, tonal values and gradation correction.
Image-Type Pre-Selection (for Automatic Ai)
At a click of a button, SilverFast's automatic image enhance button can optimize your image. With image type pre-selection, the intelligence of SilverFast's automatic image can be perfectly accommodated to a specific type of image (i.e. a sunset). Furthermore, SilverFast now features a contrast enhancement option. Just press a button and the plugin will automatically judge how much contrast adjustment is required to get to your brilliant image.
Predictable Color with Photoshop
SilverFast allows the preview image to match the final image in Photoshop. There is no color drift thanks to the color management system of SilverFast. You can simply set SilverFast to keep its working space identical to Photoshop's. You can even embed the working color profile into Photoshop.
Extended Selective Color Correction of 12 Colors
Now with intelligent recognition of the colors and extended effective range, just click onto the color you want to correct and SilverFast will distinguish it from others to allow only the specified color to be changed. Masking is also possible, allowing designated areas of the image to be affected by the correction via a lasso tool.
Super Sharpness through Unsharp-Mask Preview
Sharpness functions have been optimized so that high-end sharpness quality (Super-Sharpness) is gained. For the first time, the Unsharp-Masking-Preview allows the sharpness of the final scan to be monitored. This guarantees the user to get a maximum of professional sharpness without trial and error.
AACO - Auto Adaptive Contrast Optimization
SilverFast's AACO is an excellent tool for the correction of dark, high-contrast areas of the image while preserving the details in the highlights. It operates automatically when selected, but can also be manually manipulated. The intensity and the complexity of the shadows that are to be lightened can be adjusted without affecting the highlights of the image.
Using ICC-Profiles for the scanner, monitor and printer, and the capability to embed color profiles into your final scans, SilverFast enables professional color accuracy using the latest OS technologies. Rendering intent is another option, giving you control on how your profiles are applied to the image. This can be further enhanced using the IT-8 calibration option mentioned below.
A pioneer development from LaserSoft Imaging enables the scanner preview in SilverFast to correspond 1:1 with the CMYK-preview in PhotoShop - that's sensational - making production of perfect color-printing as easy as ever! With this break-through, LaserSoft Imaging enables color reproduction through Plug&Play CMYK for everyone!
Expanded File Formats
SilverFast now supports a total of 4 file output formats: TIFF, EPSF, DCS, and JPEG. You have the choice of either scanning or batch scanning directly into these file formats, bypassing Photoshop completely.
By scanning into the CIE-LAB-format, SilverFast already aims at the future device independent color - with PostScript Level 3 CIE-LAB, data will be automatically separated inside the RIP.
Permanent Softproof CMYK - Channel Separation
SilverFast allows the prescan window to be permanently converted to a CMYK color simulation. With softproof switched on, a single color separation can be represented at a time. This allows you to view the individual C, M, Y, and K channels.
QuickTime Movies Online Training
SilverFast software provides 1:1 Quicktime movies with sound as online training. The user can instantly understand and know how to operate the function exemplified by the movie. Sophisticated software has never been easier to use.
