    Lowel Ego reviews

Ego Fluorescent 2-Light Kit (120 VAC) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these Light Please don't pay attention to the negative comments about this softbox. If you understand how to manage your aperture and speed, you'll really like it. Being able to place the light on the floor, a table or stand is a huge plus. I bought two lights, but found that one light with the included reflector was enough to do the job. Attached our my first three shots using a Canon 30D with a 50mm 1.4 lens. All three shots were taken at night in a dark room. The book and lens shots are straight from the camera, raw and unedited. The mic shot was edited in Adobe Lightroom. As you can see, the light does mimic natural light quite well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lowel keeps it Simple! Great for product photography. Although not for talleritems. The lights are perfect for a non-photographer to geta great shot with a great digital camera! I recommend the 2 lamp kit, one is good but two is better!(With one lamp you may have to brighten levels inphotoshop). Thesweep paper is construction paper and the corrugated plasticstand is easily made yourself. But for this price, those arepretty much free. All in all this is a great product andmyself and my art are happy we found it! A simple lightingsystem that gives your work justice!! Expertise: Non-photographer artist

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Light Kit Great idea, really well executed. It may not be obvious (at least it wasn't to me), but each Ego light fixture uses two compact fluorescent bulbs. Effectively, each Ego fixture puts out around 200 Watts of light. The bulbs that came with my kit are 27 Watt rated, have a CRI of 92+, and have a color temperature of 5500 K (slightly differs from product description). These items may not be available in Europe, as the bulbs contain Mercury. Hopefully, Lowel will source bulbs containing no hazardous materials in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This does the job quite well This is a well thought out kit. The two lights (4 bulbs in total) with the diffuser, and backdrop do provide a great high key source for images. I tend to shoot at F11-F16 here and with this light I use a tripod go get that extra sharpness, and the images are impressive. The colored backdrops in the kit will prove purposeful in the future as I shoot other related products. No cons - For the money, you get a great light source for small items, and it does what it says. I couldn't think of anything I would change on this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the job, but... We are using this to do photos of jewelry, pottery, etc. for web sales and magazine articles and ads. Assembly takes about 30 minutes, and is not straight-forward, even for this mechanical engineer. The layered sides have to be opened like a very stiff pita pocket and plastic guides require a lot of force to open up. Scoring for both was not deep enough so everything felt close to breaking. For the price, I believe the design could have been more elegant. One of the lights shorts out and is difficult to keep on. An additional light was required to get the background to truly drop out. I had to replace the white paper background supplied with higher quality super-white. All in all a very good conceptual design, but this feels more like a prototype than a final product. We did get some great photos, and I now have it set up in a permanent location so all is well. When I look at other products out there, I see weaknesses in all in the price category, so perhaps I am expecting too much for a low volume product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lights This is a sweet little setup. Assembly was a little fiddly, but is straightforward. It's kind of a pain to assemble, so I don't think I'll be disassembling for storage purposes. Some of my items came packaged with what looked like scotch tape. Didn't love that. But everything else is great. The lights are really bright, so I've found myself unscrewing one of the bulbs and just using one light at a time. Haven't had a chance to use the backdrop system yet, but I can tell it'll be nice to have. Overall, happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase These lights are perfect for 'home use' photos for your web site, *, etc. I assembled them in about 10 minutes ... hint - put the light on the floor and assemble from above, it's easier. No tools required. Very light weight. Very happy and especially with the price. I've seen these lights for a lot more elsewhere, and while I feel that they are overpriced for what they are made of, it's good to purchase them at B&H at a lower price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Kit for Tabletop Photography! I just purchased this product last month for my food photography when daylight is scare this winter, and it has really exceeded my expectations. The lamps give great light, and come with a bounce card as well as the sweep and backgrounds. Everything is so light and portable, I'm able to turn the kitchen table into my photography studio each day and then tuck it all into the back of a closet by dinner!
