Sony 16mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

Get a unique perspective on life with the ultra-wide 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens from Sony, which offers full coverage for full-frame A-mount cameras. It has an extremely wide 180° angle of view and a distinct curvilinear distortion that will add character to your images. It also features a relatively fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 along with four selectable internal filters to help you control how your final images looks. Additionally, it has a built-in lens hood to block stray light along with a seven-blade aperture diaphragm.

An ultra-wide prime with a 180° angle of view and a unique curvilinear distortion designed for full-frame A-mount cameras, this 16mm can also be used on APS-C camera systems where it will provide a 24mm equivalent focal length and 110° angle of view.
Fisheye design with distinct curvilinear distortion offers complete coverage of a full-frame format image sensor.
A maximum aperture of f/2.8 will help users capture clean images when working in some difficult lighting situations.
A rotating internal filter turret allows users to quickly switch between one of four filters with ease. This includes a normal filter for general use, an O56 filter for enhanced contrast with shooting black and white images, an A12 blue reduction filter, and a B12 red reduction filter.
An integrated autofocus motor will help users quickly lock on to their subjects. The lens also offers a minimum focus distance of 7.9".
A built-in lens hood helps to minimize flare by blocking stray light from hitting the lens at off angles.
A seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

    Sony 16mm f/2.8 reviews

    16mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this thing I bought this for a weekend of shooting downtown Indianapolis and some other cool areas. I loved it. All the time i saw fisheye i always see those cheap bubble looking and i was glad to know this didn't do that. Its definitely nicer and depending on use, can really give you a nice large wide view on a city line or waterfall. Only thing i don't like about it is the lens cover doesn't seem too secure, doesn't fall off but i would of liked something a little more secure. As well as you can't put any filters on it like a circular polarizer. Love it though, definitively nice to have wish it was a lot cheaper though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from not bad at all getting good clear pictures from it an an a850. very wide angle and nice fish eye distortion. just be aware of the type of lense you are buying here. only negative is the front of the lens is exposed more than usual. I guess the bag you get for protection works, but it is a little odd.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice addition to the kit It's a pricey lens, but it allows some creativity not found in any other type of lens. Fisheye has been around for a long time, there's a reason for that. the images produced add something different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent lens My son brought the Yankee ticket for me as Father's Day present. I thought to take the Yankee Stadium using a Fisheye lens, therefore, I order it from B&H. ...The photos I took are great! I am very happy with it.
