    Night Optics D-112-MG reviews

D-112-MG Night Vision Monocular is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from With practice, works amazingly At first I thought i had wasted my money, as the head gear was clunky seeming as described in another review, and I originally had a ton of trouble focusing the device. With practice, through trial and error, I have the head gear adjusted perfectly so the piece lines up with my eye (No easy feat, but do-able), and I learned that the device can only be focused so much manually, the rest is focusing your eye in a weird way. It took me awhile to figure this out. By itself, the device works great especially on moonlight nights, but you may want to pick up an external illuminator. it can be pricey, but it is definitely worth it. I picked up a Streamlight 88704 Super TAC IR Long Range Infrared Active Illuminator for $ and it solved all my troubles. No complaints. *Takes practice!*

Rated 3 out of 5 by from D-112-MG Gen 1 review I purchased this item to supplement my patrol bag and wanted to have a cheap reliable and reasonable quality night vision monocular for surveillance purposes. The monocular itself is of good quality construction, durable, is one of the only units in the cheaper gen 1 range that has built in light over exposure protection and is weather resistant. However it is not without some draw backs. The unit has a reasonable amount of distortion arond the focus point expected with a gen 1 units. It is larger than images suggest and the head mount that comes with it has issues also. It has a slow warm down for the image intensifier tube meaning in bright conditions it can still damage the unit as it takes about 4 min to fully shut down. The IR globe is not a true IR, and actually glows red meaning with it activatd you are visible to the naked eye making surviellance with this mode on very risky. As stated earlier the head mount appears of reasonable quality however it has some design issues. Firstly the mount sits the monocular too high and too far from the wearers eye making alignment very difficult. It is clumbersome and together with the other issues makes using the unit as a hands free goggle difficult and frustrating. I found it much easier to use as a hand held monocular which avoided these issues. When I recieved it in the post I was surprised by the lack of time and info included in the instruction booklet. Had I not had experience with other night vision goggles I would have found it far more difficult to use. The booklet is printed on cheap paper, has very basic instructions and does not include diagrams that would assist the user to adjust the goggle properly. Apart from these issues the unit itself is still good and I would recommend it to others looking for a cheaper unit.
