Slik Pro 500 DX Tripod with SH-705E Pan/Tilt ... Overview

This SLIK Pro 500 DX Tripod with SH-705E 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head supports up to 11.0 lb, measures 27.4" when folded, and includes a quick release plate. Each of its 3-section legs features an independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, and flip locks for fast deployment. The included push-and-pull, rapid center column is multi-sectional, which allows it to be converted to a shortened center column. This feature permits a minimum height of 19.8" or 13.8" when the center column is shortened. The SLIK Pro 500 DX Tripod provides a maximum height of 53.8", 58.0" with its center column shortened as well as fully raised, and 64.0" with the complete column fully raised.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's pan-and-tilt head using a quick release cam lock. The head can be rotated 360°, and tilted 90° backwards or forwards, as well as sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and can be locked into place.

For added versatility, the center column is reversible, facilitating low-angle photography where an attached camera is positioned among the tripod's legs instead of above them. Foam covers on each of the legs provide a secure and comfortable grip while moving the tripod, and rubber feet help to enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces.

Solid Tripod

This tripod gives a very solid base and feels quite well built. The height is more than enough for me (6'1), and my camera feels very secure when it's locked in. Potential room for improvement - there's no leveling meter anywhere on it to tell if it's straight, so you're on your own there. Also it isn't super clear from the instructions how to extend the center column so I had to mess around with that to figure it out. Never had a tripod before so I don't have much to compare it to, but I'm happy with the purchase.

Exactly what I was looking for!

I have heavy binoculars for bird watching and wanted a heavy duty tripod to hold them. I leave it set up all the time to be ready to watch. The tripod is very stable and has lots of adjustment possibilities.

Would definitely recommend.

This tripod holds a Nikon D5300 with a 70-300 full-frame lense with no problem at all. It is very sturdy and has many metal parts. You can make the legs so that they go almost straight out, which can be handy. Also the 3-way head works very well.

Great tripod for the price

This is a very well-made tripod. It's heavy enough for general use with a typical DSLR, and the 3-way pan/tilt head with quick-release bracket is quite good. So good that the head itself, which is also sold separately, seems hard to get at the moment in the U.S. (June 2020) -- the head has a standard 1/4-20 female thread at bottom so it can be moved to other mounts as needed. It's not a fluid head, but the pan/tilt action might just be smooth enough for light moviemaking. It's nice that the quick-release key on the bracket/tripod is square, so it can be rotated 90 degrees without loosening the bracket from the camera. Slik, to their credit, has schematics with parts lists online for many of their products, including this one. Not sure about parts availability, but the lists are there.

question

What is the model number of the head? (example slik sh-705E). The reason I'm asking is according to Slik website it shows the head included is ABLE 300 DX but B & H is showing this head is discontinued.
Asked by: Anonymous
The head on the Slik Pro 500DX tripod is not sold separate. It is not an ABLE 300DX head. It is one made specific for the 500DX and is not listed by Slik. If you need a replacement head you can contact us direct via chat or you can call us.
