  • 1Description

The Korg OT120 Chromatic Orchestral Tuner is intended for orchestral instruments, precise metering packaged in a vertical design that's easy to hold and operate. It features a dual-display; an easy-to-see needle-type indicator, and a backlit LCD screen that shows the battery life, sound output level, calibration, key and note name. Additional design features include a large dial that makes it easy to select the desired mode and soft-touch buttons. Another of the OT120's advantages is its long battery life; 100 hours when running on two AAA batteries. It can also be used with an AC adapter (sold separately). It has a rear-mounted stand that lets the unit stand by itself.

Designed for Function
The OT-120 chromatic tuner packs precise performance and sophisticated functionality in a vertical design that's easy to hold and operate. It includes a dual-display that includes an easy-to-see needle-type indicator. Its backlit screen shows the battery life, sound output level, calibration, key and note name. The design also includes a large dial, soft-touch buttons and a rear-mounted stand that lets the unit stand by itself.
Tune Orchestral Instruments
With its wide tuning range extending from A0 to C8, the OT-120 lets you quickly tune any type of band instrument including, orchestra, wind, string, brass or piano. The OT-120 also provides a wide range of calibration to support concert pitches in a range of A440=349-499 Hz (1 Hz steps).
Precise Tuning
The OT-120 uses a high-precision needle-type meter for accurate pitch discrepancy measurement. The speed at which the needle responds to the input can be changed to fast, medium or slow to match your tuning preference.
Auto and Manual Tuning
You can choose Auto mode, which automatically detects the pitch of a single note you play on your instrument, or Manual mode, which lets you specify the desired note name. In Manual mode the needle movement is shown in a range of plus or minus 50 cents, letting you view the tuning discrepancy over a wide range. In addition to the needle meter, the LEDs located below the meter also indicate pitch deviation or a perfect match, making precise tuning easy even in dim locations.
Wide Range Reference Tone
Sound Back mode provides a reference tone that's ideal for tuning string or wind instruments. The OT-120 produces a reference tone in a five-octave range extending from C2 (65.41 Hz) to C7 (2093 Hz).
Transposing Keys
This unit offers supports for transposing instruments and historical temperaments. For conveniently tuning any wind instrument, twelve types of transposing keys are provided, including both sharps and flats.
Long Battery Life
The OT-120 is designed for an extended battery life of approximately 100 hours when running on two AAA batteries.

    Korg OT120 reviews

Chromatic Orchestral Tuner is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy, reliable, accurate I mostly bought this the help check the tuning of my surbahar (bass sitar) as well as for doing microtonal tunings. This is one of the few tuners I've used that is able to deal with the rich harmonic content of the surbahar, and with many octaves of reference tones it is a lot easier to tune those really high and really low strings by ear. Also, it is just plain nice to be able to move the reference tone up AND down. Why can't other tuners add an extra button to do this? For doing really really fine adjustments for microtonal stuff this tuner is a bit lacking. It's hard to tell exactly where your note is when you are in-between half steps, but this tuner does far better than any other tuner I've used for this (ignoring Peterson tuners). The combination of needle, low/high LED's and LCD annoys some people who only want once, but each of these is easy to read and is useful depending on your situations. The stand is great and is just the right angle for sitting on the floor doing Indian music, while the buttons and knobs have just the right amount of resistance and nice dents for quick and accurate one handed operation. SUMMARY: The best tuner you can get before you step into the Peterson range. Well worth the money if you are serious, but on a budget.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from look like might do a little? I bought the Korg OT120 to tune my piano. I'm not a tuner, but would like to try. This meter shows that a lots of keys are out of pitch, and I just had my piano tuned before buying the OT120, either the tuner is bad or my tuner didn't do a good job. I plan to use Korg OT120 myself, I have the tuner tools. I just need to get started. I have mechanical skills, and I know how to listen for sounds. However, I may not be able tune anything below B1 or above A8 with Korg OT120. The meter does not read below B! or above A8; and I'll find out if this was a good buy!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not For Tuning Pianos This tuner may have full Orchestral range, but it is not an effective tuner for pianos. The built-in mic does not work well in picking up the notes of the low register piano keys. Plus the high frequencies of the piano keys do not ring out long enough for this tuner to recognize the note. The tuner itself is good quality, but not for pianos. For pianos, you're better off buying a tuner designed specifically to work with a piano. My star rating is solely based on piano usage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value I use this to tune a nyckelharpa. The temper I use is -2 cents from the standard Valloti temper. I have an MT1200 (no longer available) which can be set to give me the exact tuning I require. This tuner is not adjustable in the same way. However, it does allow you to adjust the calibration of the needle. I have purposely adjusted it 2 cents using the MT1200 and it appears to work well. I gave it 4 stars because it can not actually be set to the temper that I want. I like that it is much smaller than the MT1200 and I like that the indicator is easy to read. It lacks the more accurate 1 cent meter reading that the MT1200 had though. The MT1200 was substantially more expensive when it was available and this tuner does 90% of what it did for a small fraction of the price. I would recomend this tuner for anyone who needs to tune to something other than equal temper.
