Smith-Victor KSBQ-2500 overview

  • 1Description

The Smith-Victor KSBQ-2500 2500 Watt Pro SoftBox Light Kit with Mini-Boom (120V) is a professional level continuous light source for photographers and videographers. Each fixture features a heavy duty ceramic mogul socket. Each tungsten halogen linear bulb produces a non-directional beam with optimum softness. The 3200° Kelvin bulbs are available in 500 or 1000 watts, for 120 or 230 AC voltage.

Each softbox is heat-resistant, with a silver interior, and removable face. Use this size for a group portrait of 3 - 4 people, or 4 x 6' still-life setup.

Double envelope construction of the bulb -- outer envelope protects the inner bulb from damage caused by direct contact.
Softbox is vented, and has a silver lined interior.
By removing the front of the softbox, this light may be used as a large, parabolic flood light.
The black, aluminum light stand rises to a maximum height of 10 feet.

    Smith-Victor KSBQ-2500 reviews

KSBQ-2500 2500 Watt Pro SoftBox Light Kit with Mini-Boom (120V) is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little pricy I intend to use the lights mostly for products and fashion photography. They produce nice even lighting but there are a few draw backs. (1) It would be nice if the lights could be on dimmer switches. (2) I was sent inner diffuser panels and outer diffuser panels, however, there is no way you can use the inner panels as the bulbs are much to long and will press against the fabric causing a for sure fire. When I called the Smith Vector Company to voice my concern and disappointment I was told they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix - that I can buy in the future. They didn't seem to care that I had bought the lights for the purpose of using both panels as the product was advertised that I could do so. (3) The arm on the boom stand is very weak. Made of lightweight aluminum steel, the bars will bend under the weight of the light box when the boom is extended - also needs much more counterweight. The tripods themselves are built well and seem like they will be substantial. Lights are easy to assemble. Good quality soft boxes and diffusers. Its still hard to rationalize the high price

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lights at a great price This product is used to light a small in-office studio with three chairs and a table. It is used in conjunction with a lowell 3 light kit and using 5 of the 6 lights we can cover the studio quite well. Pros: Bright even lighting. Boom arm for the smaller softbox is very handy. Once soft boxes are assembled very easy kit to set up. Boom tripod is sturdy Cons: Can get very warm in confined spaces, Tripods are a bit on the lighter side, but have shown no inclination of tipping over. Softboxes are a bit difficult to assemble the first time as the instructions that came with it were not clear. 1 star deducted for assembly difficulties and tripod weight. Overall a very great product for studio use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not durable from out of the box one of my lights never came on bhphoto sent me a bulb free of cost but when I put that in and hit the switch it blew out. and the switches on the other two never turn on with the first flick and a cracking noise often accompanies the flick. one tripods falling apart a month after use but i guess thats due to me Travelling around with them on different sets, I never dismantle the soft boxes. Besides that when the lights do come on, its nice and even.
