    Rotatrim RCM15 reviews

15" Mastercut Professional Rotary Cutter is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best cutter on the market I've used Rotatrim cutters all through college photography courses and they've cut perfectly and consistently after years of high volume use. Rotatrim cutters have even remained sharp after students have cut matboard and all sorts of surely unrecommended materials. Excellent cutter that remains sharp and gives clean, perfect cuts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent, but... This would have been given a 5 star rating because I'd give my YEARS old cutter a 5 star rating except that the plastic guard that holds the paper was installed crooked so it's making cutting the images more difficult, I have used this plastic piece as a guide on my other cutter (exactly the same) for YEARS, now I have to relearn how to use this cutter with a crooked guide... otherwise it's a fantastic cutter. It seems the quality control person was sleeping the day mine was assembled.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great trimmer When you spend the time to take a great picture you want to make sure that it gets mounted right. Smudges during trimming would void a lot of previous work, why risk? This is the right tool for the job, it's worth the picture. I love the feel of professional touch and the quality of assembly. The plastic clamp by the edge helps to see where you are cutting. The self sharpening wheel gives a great, clean cut. I love this trimmer and I would recommend it to a friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very precise and sturdy This a very well made, sturdy cutter. It works the way it's supposed to, cutting extremely straight lines. From the way it's designed, it looks like it will keep working, without any maintenance, for many years. (For example, the circular cutting blade is large, thick, and self-sharpening. By all accounts, the blade lasts years, even with heavy use.) The cutter itself is larger than I expected, about 4 wider than the cutting width. It needs its own space, taking up about as much room on a desk as a typical guillotine style cutter, and is probably not something that should be moved frequently or stored on its side. (An attached flyer warns that it can be damaged if lifted by its metal rails.) Its cuts are dead straight - the cutting blade is held in a large metal block, which presses down on a plastic cover as it passes over the paper. It usually does a good job of holding the paper straight. It can easily cut through multiple sheets, and I have tried it on everything from paper to art board. I like this cutter very much, but it does have some limitations, which I'll point out. If you need very exact measurements, the built-in guides don't have a precision to match the cutter. On the one I received, I was disappointed to see a slight - perhaps 0.5 mm - discrepancy between the ruler on the side of the device and the grid markings on the surface. Also, the sliding aluminum guide which supports the bottom of the paper is at slightly less than 90 degrees, and has some play it it, which slightly affects precision. The cutter itself rides on two rails, and is extremely precise - it can easily slice off an even, 0.25 mm thread of paper, and works as well cutting 10 sheets simultaneously as it does cutting one. It would have been nice if the scales were calibrated to a similar accuracy. The sliding handle could use improvement. It is a sturdy metal block. A set of grips on the back are its only nod to ergonomics. If you hold the cutting block with your thumb on the side, which feels natural, you risk pinching it against the metal supports at the far end of the cut. However, its movement is smooth and sure. As with any cutter of this design - or any guillotine cutter, it is impossible to make a cut starting and ending partway along the sheet. The blade only moves sideways - it can't be brought down in the middle, as you can with some cheaper cutters *. Also, because of the way the cutter presses down on the plastic support, paper is hard to load if the cutter is not at the end of its track. There's no user manual, so you figure this stuff out as you go. However, these are nitpicks, and there are easy workarounds - eg, for repeatable, measurements, marking key points on the cutter with tape. This is an extremely capable cutter, with sturdy, high quality construction. Against other cutters, it seems like a professional, serious tool compared to colorful toys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best trimmer I've owned several trimmers over the years and the Rotatrim is the best by far. The self sharpening blade gurantees a perfect cut everytime. In the 4 years I've owned this cutter I've yet to change the blade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RotaTrim does what others only promise The RotaTrim Rotary Cutter is by far and away the best one I have ever used. I have cut many paper products in the last 4 years (often 250+ items at a time) and the blade is still as sharp as the day it was purchased. The guides are easy to read and use. The blade allows you to shave edges for minute corrections. The whole cutter is very sturdy. The only drawback is the price. In summary - Best Ever and worth every penny.!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As expected I bought this expensive thing because of good reviews and not regret at all. The cutter is SOLID and cut photo-paper as knife would cut a butter. Do not mess up with anything else, as nothing could be compared to this cutter. It's an investment. Very accurate as you'd expect from professional instrument. It also made in England, so even better, not some piece of China junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What I always needed i have needed this cutter since i was a child. it works differently from the garbage you will find in a box store. the cheap cutters have a blade like a handheld fabric rotary cutter, in that it's an edge with bevels both sides. this blade runs along cutting thru paper and tracking the groove in the cutting surface it HOPEFULLY made directly below itself. it can, and will, wander all over the map and your cutting accuracy will be dismal. been there. had several. let's move on ... now , my RotoTrim cutter has a fixed lower carbon steel blade just like a guillotine cutter, and a wickedly sharp upper wheel (single bevel) that overlaps the lower blade about 3/16. it Shears, rather than Pinches the material off. the cutter will reliably shave as little as 0.015 off and edge. it is simply Too Cool. it is not the perfection of a true precision machine tool (ie, a milling machine), but for what it reasonably costs, and as nicely, and sweetly, and accurately as it does, it is perfect. look no further.
