Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but thin Purchased the swatchbook primarily to use them as strobist filters. The CTS/CTO filters are wonderful for correcting color temperature differences between flash and low-temperature light sources. In addition to those filters, there are a lot of other useful color filters and diffusion samples worth checking out. The filters are a bit thinner than others I have encountered, though, and may be a bit less durable because of this. As another suggestion, be careful with using very dark filters with your flash-- anything below about 25% transmittance has a good chance of burning or getting very hot and warping with a full-burst flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gels on the cheap! One of those bargains you don't find often. You get a ton of gels for experimenting with for your flash. I have a Canon Speedlight 580EX II that I use. I just pick a gel(sample), place it over the lens and flip the diffuser over the gel to hold it in place. Simple as that! If you don't want to use the diffuser, you can stretch a 3 inch X 1/2 inch rubber band along the perimeter of the flash flush with the lens and just bend one edge of the gel all the way over (180 degrees) so when held by the rubber band, it stays snug along the lens face. No need to spend $30-$50 for velcro or gel holders.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots of rich colors! I bought this to try creating some colored light with my small strobe camera flashes, a Vivitar 285HV specifically. They work pretty well, but aren't quite as tall as the flash head, so there is a little gap around them. I would recommend removing the plastic post that holds them together, and using a large binder clip to keep them together. This makes it easy to remove the one you want to try, but keeps them together for storage. The colors in this set seem much richer than the ones in the standard Roscolux swatchbook, which may prevent the need to stack multiple gels to get the color you want. There aren't as many gels as in the Roscolux swatchbook, but there are still enough that you can probably get any color you need.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hard to complain at this price, but... I'm using the gels for a 430EXII flash unit. You get a good assortment of the gels and there is a paper swatch behind each gel that gives a brief explanation of the gel's intended use. They are large enough to use with the 430EXII flash and I haven't had any issues with the gels melting or warping after a few days of use. The problem with this product is thatyou need to actually cut the plastic bolt that holds them all together in order to use a gel. Once the bolt is cut, you are left with what seems like 1,000 loose gel swatches. It's also difficult to make sure you keep each gel with it's corresponding paper swatch that tells you about the specific gel. If the bolt could be taken apart and put back together, I would have given 4 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the Strobist choice David Hobby of @ recommends this swatchbook as an inexpensive way to gel your strobes. I use the CTO and Window Green to correct the color of my Nikon SB600/800 flashes. The small swatches just fit on the top of the flash head, but you need to find a way to attach them. You need to be a bit careful with the gel swatches; they do bend and crease easily in the camera bag, but hey, the swatchbook cost a penny, and once I'm happy with a gel, I buy a sheet and make my own. Plus there are more colors to experiment with in the pack. The swatchbook is a great way to get started with flash gels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Swatchbook! This swatch book is great to use with a Canon Speedlite 580EX II. The swatches are just a little bit larger than the flash head and covers it perfectly. There are many different gels to choose from and each swatch has a sheet listing what that specific gel should be used for. If you cut the plastic rod that holds the swatches together, you can replace it with a metal ring so the swatches can be removed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little color in your life When I was in high school oh so many years ago, lighing companies used to give these out, although you needed to walk into the store so they knew you. In several decades things haven't changed, and thats a good thing. This is the same filter material in the large sheets so you can know what you are ordering. Unlike high school, I now use these on my camera flashes where they work wonderfully. The only downside is they have the hold punched in them for the book and the sheets aren't directly labeled (its filter/paper label/filter/paper label). But....these are a great price!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not as expected Since I was not familiar with gels I was convinced to purchase a sample book that could be used to tape to a flash unit. However, the plastic bolt connecting the gels was impossible to open and had to be cut. And they were too small to be attatched easily
