Lumicon LF3030 overview

  • 1Description

The original Lumicon 2" Ultra High Contrast filter is unbeatable for revealing nebulosity. This is achieved by passing three nebula emission lines-the two doubly ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm) and the H-beta line (486nm)-while blocking light-pollution and Sky Glow. The result is superb views of the Orion, Lagoon, Swan and other extended nebulae.

The 1.25" filters employ industry-standard 1.125" x 42 tpi threads (except for Questar/Brandon, which use a thread pattern unique to Questar). The 48 mm filters employ industry-standard 48 x 0.75 mm threading, which thread into 2" eyepieces. All larger filters use the given size with 0.75 mm pitch (e.g. a 72 mm Minus Violet filter has 72 x 0.75 mm threads).

Note: Recommended for telescopes 8" and larger in aperture

The ultimate nebula filter
To ensure that your Lumicon filter remains the world's best, the strictest quality control standards are employed throughout the production process
Each Lumicon Ultra High Contrast Filter is individually inspected and proudly inscribed with the percentage of light transmittance of the OIII and H-beta emission lines

    Lumicon LF3030 reviews

Ultra High Contrast 48mm Filter (Fits 2" Eyepieces) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An exceptional filter Can't really say how this compares with other filters of its type, but I now have both this UHC and also the Lumicon OIII filters. They make a really good pair. The main thing to keep in mind is that on lots of subjects the difference in detail is so subtle that some might find it hard to justify having both. I found it interesting that I have always found the OIII amazing with subjects like the Veil; but in a test session with the UHC under heavy light pollution from the moon the Veil was clearly visible in the UHC and virtually lost in the OIII. So in summary, I find that the OIII offers more critical detail under excellent observing conditions on many subjects, but the UHC generally provides an a more aesthetically pleasing view and works better as a more general purpose light pollution filter.
