Designed as a reference lens for the M-mount system, the silver Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. from Leica is a versatile normal-length prime characterized by its bright maximum aperture and sophisticated optical design. Comprising eight elements in five groups, the lens features one aspherical element to reduce spherical aberrations and both anomalous partial dispersion and high refractive index glasses are used to control color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity. Additionally, a floating elements system is used to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range, down to 2.3'. Additionally, the lens features a built-in extendable lens hood and is threaded to accept 46mm screw-in filters.

How is this latest version optically different from the one prior version that was slightly longer?
OK, I found the answer to my question directly from an expert at Leica thanks to B&H for providing me a number to call. The answer is, the current 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH is exactly the same optical design as the first version that came out 2004, which initially did not have the 6-bit coding. This is the 11891 model, designed by Peter Karbe. The pre-2004 version was a Mandler design. Although not called APO, this version of the Summilux is an APO design. That's it.

Your SPECS data says the weight is the same as the black version, but isn't black aluminum and silver brass? Weight difference?
This Leica 11892 Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 is the older version of the current Leica 11729 Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4. The 11892 version was made of brass hence would be heavier (460G to be exact) than it's newer counterpart which is made in aluminum at 337g. So yes, the black and silver versions of the new lenses weigh the same but the older 11892 is heavier.

Can this lens used by upcoming Leica T, what function would Leica T lose by using this lens instead of T mount lens?
You would need the Leica M-Adapter-T for Leica T Camera (B&H # LEMAT) in order to mount the 50mm f/1.4 Summilux M lens onto the Leica T. With the adapter you would retain exposure metering, aperture priority AE, and manual setting capability.

Yes, the Round Metal Lens Hood is included in the box of Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. Lens (Black-Chrome Edition, Made in Portugal) mounts on the lens bayonet while the 43mm filter screw is on the front inner threads of the lens.

What is the difference with this lens and the Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. Lens that has the lens hood that is attached?
Optically, both lenses are exactly the same. Physically, there are a couple differences:
The Black Chrome version is made of brass instead of aluminum on the "regular" black version.
The hood keeps its original 1959 design and can be taken off, which will allow the user to add a filter. The design does not allow the lens to have a filter and the lens hood at the same time, without an adjustment from the Leica team in Germany (must be sent to Wetzlar to proceed with this adjustment).
Distance markings are in red (vs yellow on the "regular" black version)
Has a special scalloped focus ring
Filter size is 43mm vs 46mm on the "regular" black version.
It's definitely a beauty! Great for anyone wanting a special design on a classic everyday lens.
