Schneider 12-039256 overview

  • 1Description

The Schneider 45mm lens is a six-element apochromatically corrected lens of the Schneider HM Series. Schneider has set new standards for the most stringent demands of professional enlarging techniques.

The quality of its image over a practically unlimited enlarging range meets perfectly all the wishes of the professional photographer, especially when working with the new fine-grained films.

Schneider manufactures its optics with a high degree of precision, ensuring the lasting quality of the Apo-Componon HM. The design has been adjusted to the special requirements of high-quality enlarging techniques.

The 45mm HM lens has been equipped with a luminous aperture scale, illuminated setting index, preset iris, and click stops which can be disengaged.

The preset iris allows the diaphragm to be opened after setting the working apertures in order to correct the image sector or focusing. Afterwards, the diaphragm can be reset easily.

Slightly wide 35mm enlarging lens of superior quality
Ideal for short-column enlargers
The iris can be opened after stopping down to the desired aperture for final cropping adjustment or fine focusing

    Schneider 12-039256 reviews

    45mm f/4 APO-Componon HM Enlarging Lens is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine piece of glass! As good as they get, in my estimation. I also own an APO Rodenstock 50mm and recently spent a great deal of time determining which was better. I use a Versalign and feel good about my equipment alignment. With the particular lens examples that I own, I was unable to differentiate results between these 2 lenses. The Rodenstock's 2.8 aperture allows a bit brighter viewing but I'd be hard pressed to pick one over the other. I imagine that lens to lens variations within each model could change one's perception but for what it's worth, I couldn't pick between the 2 I have. Most of my 35mm printing doesn't go beyond 8 X 10 and this is what I initially compared. When I couldn't see a difference, I went 16 X 20 magnification and still couldn't see a difference (even with a 20X loupe).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the Best! This is the second time I've tried to review this lens. Only Schneider's HM lenses cover the entire magnification range. Before if one wanted to print mural size you needed a G-series lens. This one does it all. The character of the lens is such that it doesn't add or subtract to your negative in contrast or character. I just printed a 60x40 from Ilford Delta 400 shot with a Leica MP / 35mm Summicron Asph. Superb! The only lens you'll ever need for 35.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Buy IT! Cranked my enlarger up to 8'. The 40x60 print on Ilford Roll MG simply blew my G lens away. The film was Delta 400. The camera an MP with asph summicron. WoW!!! Never could get results like this before. The fact that this lens covers all X's make it the only choice for your turret.
