This lens does not have a built in auto-focus motor. That being said, it will only auto-focus with cameras that haveauto-focus motors built into them. The D90 does have this motor so you should have not problem auto-focusing this lens with that camera. This lens will not auto-focus with the Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, D3200, D5000, D5100, and D5200 as they do not have internal focusing motors.I use this lens underwater with the Nikon D7100 and get great results.Hope this has been helpful.Dave W.
