Kowa XD44 overview

  • 1Description

Kowa Genesis 10.5x44 Binoculars mark the peak in Kowa's line of roof prism binoculars. They are engineered for the utmost in performance, viewing quality, and durability. This optic is an optical luxury worth every penny as it easily holds its ground with other brands of premium sports optics.

These 10.5x44 binoculars mate Kowa's own Prominar ED glass to minimize chromatic aberration with C3 optical multi-coatings that allow an unheard-of 99% transmissivity of each element between 400 and 700nm, a feature that is very helpful when spotting birds. Most other units competing in the Genesis' range average 95%, and, as such, the Genesis series binoculars certainly stand out from the crowd.

All Genesis series binoculars feature a lightweight, yet extremely rugged magnesium frame that is the foundation of the waterproof and fogproof body. Optically, the unit can focus down to an amazing 5.5' and the boost in objective lens size from a more common 42mm to 44mm provides a clear view that is 10% brighter. Internal focusing aids in keeping the overall operating size from becoming unwieldy.

Prominar ED optical elements
High-contrast view roof prism provided by excellent refractivity and accented by phase coating - very sharp
C3 coating process enhances reflectivity and minimized light loss
Dioptric adjustment ring is unobtrusive and lockable
Twist-up eyecups are convenient for eyeglass wearers and non-eyeglass wearers alike
5.5' Minimum focus

    Kowa XD44 reviews

    10.5x44 Genesis XD44 Binocular is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb glass I first checked these out at the B&H superstore on a visit to NYC. Yes, I found them to be heavy but this was counter-balanced by their ergonomic handling and their incredible light-gathering capabilities. As the salesman said to me, the weight was in that incredible Kowa glass. (I know about Kowa optics as I also have a Kowa spotting scope.) After I received them, my first real outing with them was to use them to watch Short-eared Owls hunting over a field at dusk. Their light-gathering qualities were put to great use following those owls hunting in the twilight. I could clearly see the dark and light markings on the birds' buffy wings, though the sun had dropped below the horizon 10 minutes earlier and the sky was lit only by its afterglow. They are truly more than a match for any German/Austrian/Swiss glass you can name. I look forward to many years of birding enjoyment with these binoculars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Traditional, top quality Prominar lenses I was really stunned when I first tried the KOWA 10.5x44 Genesis. Optically they are just perfect with the famous lens technology used in the highly acclaimed spotting scopes. The rubber armouring makes a pleasant and warm feel. The focusing ring was the smoothest of all the binoculars I have ever tried. Highly recommended despite being relatively heavy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Binoculars. I use these mainly for hunting and scouting. The optics are clear, crisp, and bright. The only downside is the weight - quite heavy after wearing them all day.
